In Exodus, which Egyptian Pharoah is in power?I ask because I am reading through my art appreciation book and came across this interesting tidbit. "During the 14th century BCE, a king by the name of Amenhotep IV rose to power. His reign marked a revolution in both religion and the arts. Amenhotep IV, named for the god Amen, changed his name to Akhenaton in honor of sun god Aton, and declared that Aton was the only god. In his monothiestic fury, Akhenaton spent his life tearing down the monuments to the old gods and erecting new ones to Aton. It goes on to say, after Akhenaton's death "Just as Akhenaton destroyed the images and shrines of gods favored by earlier pharoahs, so did his successors destroy his temples to Aton." So things basically returned back to normal, and the old Egyptian gods were restored. Did Akhenaton succeed after the Pharoah of Exodus? Or rather, Amenhotep's family's line? Seems this took place over 100 years after the events of Exodus, 1353-1336 (give or take 2 years)

My Western Civ prof thought the early Jews had something to do with Akhenaton, but for all that, I don't think he was the Pharaoh of Exodus. I'm too tired to look it up tonight, but I'll have you an answer not later than Saturday.

Im trying to find a chick tract that talks about the Exodus. There is a page that shows what plague proved which of their gods false. I think, if Aton was their sun god, then the plague of darkness in Exo 10:21-23 would have cancelled him out.
or did the egyptian gods have a hierarchy similar to Greek mythology where Zeus held the height of power?

I've just started studying Exodus with my little group and I'm also trying to figure the identity of the Exodus Pharoah. I'll be interested in any information that gets posted here.

It was probably Ramses. There are problems with the Biblical dating chronology, but Ramses II is still the most likely candidate.
