Should a born again (regenerated) christian leave the Catholic church?

    Friends --

Be careful. I'm Catholic and I'm here to tell you that I'm saved - and so is my husband, and so are a lot of other "mackerel snappers." Why? Because we believe that Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father, came down to earth to sacrifice Himself for us, to save us from the sins we couldn't save ourselves from.

We believe in the Trinity, and that there is only one God. Many of us honor Mary as the mother of God, but do NOT worship her.

There are even a lot of us who believe that the Bible trumps the RC church. In other words, the typical Catholic eschatological view is not ours. We, too, believe in the pre-trib rapture and the millenial reign of King Jesus.

It just hurts when so many think we're all pond scum being led off the cliff by the Pied Piper. To me, the "Church" (with a capital "C") refers to the Church of the Body of Christ. What religion we choose to congregate in can be irrelevant - it's our faith in the Lord Jesus that matters. That's what separates us, the believers, from the non-believers.

So, don't shed any tears for me. I expect to see all of you in the clouds and pass around the hugs as we celebrate the marriage feast with our precious Groom.

One of best friends is Catholic. We've had a few discussions and she seems to be of the same beliefs as you. She said she uses the Bible as her foundation and not the RCC.

Well sound. Being a Baptist, I too have made statements like above in a general statement while forgetting that some that attend the RCC are saved. But I think as a whole the RC is leading many down a dark road. I thank Jesus and the Holy Spirit for leading you pass the RCC ways.
I feel we all get feed up with the world and the "In your face sins" the "My way to Heaven" so we tend to jump at the first hint of losing a fellow member.
If these men and women who now are attending the RCC were saved prior to joining then they are saved, for nothing or no body can take from God.
Have you read the latest chapter of " Are They Ready for This?"

I would like to ask you a few questions. What draws you to the Catholic church? Do you do Bible studies on your own? I know that Catholic churches do not have Sunday School and Bible studies. How do you learn about the Truth? Why is Mary seen around the church more than Jesus? Why is Jesus hanging on the cross? It is finished. He is not there anymore.

IMHO, I think the Catholic church keeps a person's eyes off of Jesus and what He did for us. The veil was torn and we do not need priest to confess our sins to. We go directly to God thru Jesus. We don't answer to priests. Thankfully, you have seen thru and are saved. But, many are deceived. Likewise, many in other denominations do not hear the Truth.

Roman Catholicism and Biblical Christianity are opposed to each other. They have different gospels and are built on different foundations. What is different IS NOT THE SAME. You cannot hold to both and claim both. You either believe one is true or the other.

You either believe that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ is sufficient for your salvation or you don't. You either believe that you are justified in an instant by faith alone in what God accomplished through the shed blood of Christ or you don't. You either believe the atoning work of Jesus is finished or you don't. You either believe that Jesus is your only mediator with the Father or you don't. You either believe that you have no righteousness of your own and need to receive the righteousness of Jesus Christ as a gift directly from Jesus through repentance or you don't. You either believe Jesus is unique in his sinlessness or you don't. You either believe grace is unmerited favor received directly from God or you don't. You either believe the bible is your spiritual authority or you don't.

Please figure out what you believe and who you believe. There is only one gospel that saves. One. And it is NOT preached or believed in the Roman Catholic Church. God does not look lightly at the denial of the sufficiency of His Son nor at the spiritual idolatry of the Roman Church. If your ultimate purpose is to please God and worship as He teaches, you need to seriously reconsider what you are doing in a Catholic Church.

Well said. But I must also add the the Protestant denominations are also merrily marching down the apostate path in these last days. If you find yourself in the rare church these days that preaches, teaches, and lives by the Word of God, then count yourself blessed.

    Hi, Rescued --

What draws me? I was baptized as an infant and spent 12 years in Catholic schools, including convent boarding schools.

Do we do bible studies? My DH and I have readings every evening (we use the new living translation because it's more understandable to our puny minds; we have a King James version next to it for the classical language like Psalm 23 and the beatitudes). When we're reading the Gospels, we both frequently cry openly at Jesus' words, so convicted are we of His wonder and how unworthy we are that He chose us.

Actually, Catholic churches do conduct bible studies these days. We choose not to participate.

Mary is not only not seen more around my church than Jesus, she's hardly seen at all, and is only mentioned as the mother of God.

Jesus is hanging on the Cross as a reminder of His sacrifice. Of course it is done.

In my church, the pastor preaches every homily based on the day's Gospel and Jesus' promises to us. It's ALL about Jesus. There is no other focus.

Confession we don't subscribe to and we don't believe in purgatory, because it's not in the Bible.

All that said, we stay because the meat of what we get is unequivocally focused on our Lord and Savior.

There's a Baptist church in my area (the largest in the southwest U.S., I believe.) I've been there for a couple of functions, and while they're certainly biblically sound, I could never be comfortable in a huge auditorium with balconies and stages, etc. for my "physical place" of worship. It's just toooooo much for me.

And, finally, there is only ONE way to heaven - and the King of kings holds the keys to the gates. See you in the clouds, friend.

There are no sins that you can save yourself from. Our sins can only be forgiven through Christ our Lord.

Carla, I understand what you are getting at. I used to be Catholic, but when I got saved I left. The thing I miss most about it is the sense of reverence and holiness a person gets when walking into a RC church. I've always felt that Protestant churches were missing that very important aspect of worship. It sometimes seems more like a social gathering than a reflection of God's people come to give him Glory and Honor. Not that their aren't Protestant Churches that don't have it, but they are few and far between.

I find it interesting the book of Revelation never tells someone to leave their church, apostate or otherwise. The command and encouragement is always to OVERCOME.

    The church of Ephesus:
Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

    The church of Smyrna:
Revelation 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

    The church of Pergamos:
Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

The church of Thyatira (possibly applicable to the RCC):
    Revelation 2:24-29

24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.

25But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.

26And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

27And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

28And I will give him the morning star.

29He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

    The church of Sardis:
Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

    The church of Philadelphia:
Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

    The church of Laodiceans:
Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

I relate the church of Thyatira to the RCC because of the condition of those believers who were not participating in the sins of the church (reference the encouragement in Revelation 3:24: But unto you (the church of Thyatira) I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden).

Satan is particularly good at sneaking into our churches and wreaking havoc through false doctrine, division, and dissention. No church is perfect, but as believers we are to be salt and light to the world and to our church if need be. If every gospel-believing member fled their church due to some form of legalism, heresy, or apostasy there would be a lot of empty buildings.

    To CarlaL48,

Keep on keeping on, or as God would say, "Overcometh"! Be the believer in the RCC that overcometh and hopefully God will use you to bring others to salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

    Humbly in Christ,

    Michael

Carla, Did you have a time in your life when you made a personal commitment to Jesus, confessing your sin nature, and trusting in the shed blood of Christ to cover and continually cleanse you of your sin?

Is this an evangelical bible church?

So, don't shed any tears for me. I expect to see all of you in the clouds and pass around the hugs as we celebrate the marriage feast with our precious Groom.
I was also born, baptized, catechismed, confirmed, heard the true Word of God for the first time (not while in the RCC), was born again, and finally rejected the RCC altogether at the age of 23. I say all of this so that you would know that I understand what I'm speaking of.
My question to you in remaining in the RCC is what do you do during the mass when it's time for communion. Do you partake? What do you do when there is a baby baptism, do you attend? What do you do about confession, do you go? When there are prayers offered for those that have already died, do you ignore those? When there are catholic feasts, do you attend? Do you just ignore all of the sacraments? I do not understand how you can attend a RCC church and ignore all that is going on in it.

This is true but it's not about losing a person to another club, that in itself is no big deal

That would be the crux of the matter, where is the line drawn on how to worship God? Jesus says in spirit and truth. I'm sure you would be upset if a friend joined a church of satan, how about a Mormon church or Jehovah's Witness group? Is it ok to claim salvation and worship in liturgical fashion which denies full trust
    in Jesus?

    Carla,

I appreciate the attitude of love that you have for the Church of Jesus Christ. I also grew up in Catholic schools, but the Lord showed me that the Catholic Jesus is not the same Jesus of the Bible. If, in fact, you do believe in the true Jesus, the Son of God, as expressed in the Word of God, then you are in direct opposition to the Jesus on the cross and the Eucharist of the Roman Catholic Church.

The Jesus of the Catholic Church is a very different person. And he is the Jesus that is being embraced by the apostate protestants and emergent evangelicals who are choosing to celebrate unscriptural doctrines and practices.

I think that InHisGrip made some very valid observations. What DO you do in those instances? Good questions. How do you answer them?

I guess I am curious as to what you are inferring. Do you believe the RCC to be Babylon the great? If so, what scriptural reference do you have to support this view? At this point in time (Revelation 17 - 18) the Church is already removed from the earth.

    To CarlaL48,

Keep on keeping on, or as God would say, "Overcometh"! Be the believer in the RCC that overcometh and hopefully God will use you to bring others to salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Michael, I think you conveniently missed Rev 18:4 which says very clearly, "I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues;"...the bible also says to those in the church at Thyatira that those who do not repent of their idolatry will be thrown into persecution and their children will be struck dead. Rev 2:20-23

Please, please do not encourage people to stay in a church where they are required to deny the finished work of Christ and participate in idolatry. When someone is saved and sealed with the Holy Spirit, the Spirit does not require them to stay and participate in SIN in order to reach others. The Holy Spirit is concerned with the spiritual growth and Truth received by the new believer and moving them into fellowship with other true believers. It is also a better witness to leave than to stay.

I know many, many Ex-Catholics that were given a very strong message to get OUT of the Catholic church when they were saved. I was one of them. The Holy Spirit does not risk our spiritual health by leaving us there. Nor does He want our money and resources going to build and enhance the false church.

I will also say, that if you are someone sitting in the Catholic Church, and you don't even recognize the biblical conflict in terms of who and how you are worshipping, then I say check yourself to make sure you are in the faith. The Holy Spirit testifies to these things....you should be hearing the voice of the Spirit to get out and worship the Lord Jesus in TRUTH.
