Thread: Will You Ever Buy from the Big 3 Again?

  1. #1

Default Will You Ever Buy from the Big 3 Again?

Ok, I never have bought from the Big 3 (only Toyotas), but I'm interested to know how many here will continue to buy from these companies. I really think this is gonna backfire on them, and will only make it worse for every body else.

Sorry frodo, I know you have the same thread posted, but I wanted to see poll numbers.

I would buy another Ford truck. For anything else, though, it is Toyota or Honda for me, before and/or after any bailout. Whether I'm supportive or not of a bailout, I wouldn't let it interfere in my purchase choices... I choose a vehicle based on my family's and my interests, and nothing else.

I've got over 200,000 on my 1990 Dodge van and 170,000 on my Chrysler Concorde. They both still run great. I would definately buy again (provided we're not raptured first). The japanese aren't that bad at copying our cars but I'll stick with the originals.

I drive an old Ford Escort. It's awful. It probably has less than a year to live! I want a Corolla really badly.

Basically, like any commodity, there will always be a market for a the low-price, low-quality product. Everyone knows that if you want something cheap to get you by, buy Big 3 (there are some exceptions here, of course). If you want something a bit more expensive that will last longer, go foreign. The Big 3 will always have a market though.

My Grandfather bought Chevys, my father bought Chevys and I bought Chevys until I got a piece of junk in 87. In 01 I bought a Toyota tundra and I love that truck. I just wish Toyota made a full size van.

I have had Fords and Chevys. I do NOT like their products.
What irks me about this bailout is the govt now gets a say in what they will and will not make. My prediction: Quality will drop thru the floor now that the govt is involved.
Democrats don't like SUVs. Guess what the big three will no longer be making?

Furthermore now that the govt is nationalizing the big three, they won't like competition from Toyota and other plants. You can bet the democrats will use every monopoly tactic against competitors.

Bottom line: Prices go up. Quality and choice go down.

All evil needs to prosper is for good men to do nothing.
Pacifism is good men doing nothing...

Well, you didn't give an option for those of us who only buy "big 3" and that is all we will buy. Have always been a GM customer, run them until they have over 200,000 miles. Have owned Ford and Dodge, what pieces of junk. My dad was a huge Chrysler fan, never had anything but trouble out of them. My oldest brother was a Chrysler fan, youngest one a Ford fan; until they finally listened and bought GM products. They were amazed at the difference in quality! Now they won't buy anything else.

We have a Chrysler Town and Country and it's great. I gotta say that the Honda Pilot we had was the best vehicle ever. I would probably buy from the big 3 though again.

We've owned Chevy's, Dodges, and Fords. We have an Expedition now, two years old. My husband just noticed rust on it the other day. That seems a little early for rust. We haven't even paid it off yet.

When the gas prices were high, we parked the Expedition and bought a used. . . Nissan.

Love that little car (Pathfinder). It is so FUN to drive. I don't think I've ever used the word FUN with Chevy, Dodge or Ford. When we go to buy a new vehicle in a couple of years, I will probably head for the Nissan lot rather than any of the big three.

    hmmm... lets see....

i come from a car family, my dad was a street rodder in his youth and a grease monkey and auto body repairman professionally... so we often simply came into cars at random. often leaning in the direction of (but not always owning)Ford/Mercury.
We have never bought a brand new car, always either used or rebuilt/salvage.

my list of cars since i was 16:

    1972 Porsche 914
    1985 Buick Skylark
    1986 Toyota Tercel
    1990 Ford Taurus
    1989 (?)Oldsmobile Brougham
    2001 Hyundai Accent
    1998 Ford Explorer Sport

hubby has owned only had 4 cars, a Dodge Charger of unknown vintage, it was dead and buried on the beach somewhere in eastport before i met him... i gave him my Tercel when i got the Taurus, he also owned an older Hyundai Accent which we gave to my uncle who's most and only possession of value is his vintage Chevy Nova- and he knows better than to drive it in winter. Now hubby owns a 1998 (?) Pontiac Grand Am. I hate it cause its an ugly blue/green metallic. ick

The Porsche was fun, the Pontiac, Buick and Olds were smooth, the Toyota was like a tin can on wheels, the Hyundais were reliable and my '01 and its airbags was adequate enough to protect my life in a head-on collision the first of the year. that was my favorite car, it was cute, fun to drive- i could fit amazing amounts of things in it (9' Christmas tree, 46 gallon euro tank & stand, 30 gallon tank and stand and hood, 300# of aquarium sand etc- ) can you tell i miss my little Chickenhawk? *sniffle*
the Ford Taurus was a little rougher than the Buick or Olds, but it was also reliable- except when it liked to blow hoses.
The Pontiac has been ok, had some head gasket issues at first, and the heat/ac fan is on the blink right now so on cold days hubby takes my Exploder to work so he dosen't freeze on the way.

So, i don't really know if my buying will be affected by the bailouts , it generally wasn't affected by advertising anyway. Most of our vehicles have basically been set before us and we either take them or pass on them based on need. I have the Explorer because after the accident, my parents advised me to get a taller, more hefty vehicle so i could avoid any driving phobias, and there it was.

    ...and then, there's the Zamboni....

well, there is my useless babble for the morning!

    I can't stand American cars. >: (

I've always bought Nissan and will continue to do so. My frontiers have always been the best trucks and they're built here in the US so I'm still supporting our economy.

I don't drive, so buying a car is kinda pointless for me.

I've always steered clear of foreigns because to me they always seemed flimsy. They didn't seem to have the substance to them that American made did. My wife always says that her grandfather would roll over in his grave if she ever owned a rice burner.

Over the passed few years, they seem to have gotten more sturdy, and it's hard to argue if they're warrantying their own products for up to 10 years.

I'm willing to consider one that isn't from the big 3 for my next vehicle.

I wish Chrysler would resurrect the AMC Eagle line of cars. I used to own one and I loved that car. *sigh* Now I'm wishing again that I'd never gotten rid of it.

I have only ever owned Chevys. But if they can't manage my tax dollars any better than they managed their private income, nope. Not again.
