LOS ANGELES - To attract new members, the pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles has turned God's house into a doghouse for one service each Sunday.

The 30-minute "Canines at Covenant" worship service features individual doggie beds, canine prayers and an offering of dog treats.

The church's pastor, the Rev. Tom Eggebeen, says many Christians love their pets as much as human family members, but churches have been slow to recognize that love as the work of God. Eggebeen believes, "When we love a dog and a dog loves us, that's a part of God and God is a part of that."

Laura Hobgood-Oster, a religion professor at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, says she has heard of half-a-dozen other congregations that hold dog-friendly worship services, including one in a Boston suburb called Woof 'n Worship.
Unusual.....Now, I love my pets, but this may be carrying things just a bit far, perhaps?

"When we love a dog and a dog loves us, that's a part of God and God is a part of that."

Why do I suddenly feel like singing the Barney theme song and that wasn't even my generation. Don't psychologists call this displacement or something?

That's idolatry plain and simple when we take our love for the creatures that far. God gave us creatures for various reasons, but to idolize, even a beloved pet is just wrong.
    Isaiah 40:11
"He shall feed His flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm,and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young."

Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

The trouble is men are not willing to let the Scriptures say what they want to say. This is largely due to their training, environment, prejudice, or desire to make the Scriptures teach some favorite doctrine.

So true! I do believe that the Church is asleep and that the world is gotten very sad. Everyone walks around in their own world and don't dare make them angry, or they blow up on you. Churches attendance has dropped drastically.
Please don't be angry but I do not attend Church, for reasons that I think 99% are asleep and most don't teach about prophecy or end times. I study the Word daily.

Years ago in a small, casual country church, we used to let the occasional pet dog in......until a toddler got bit in the face. It wasn't a serious bite, but it was scary. No more dogs allowed after that.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21
