I don't believe there is any indication in the Word as to the national origens of the false prophet.

The False prophet will have the power of the counterfeit spiritual gifts of miracles and will perform signs for the purpose of deception. After convincing the world of the supremacy of the antichrist, he will command men to make an image of the beast. After the image is made, it will be given life by the false prophet. This power of giving life will be another factor why men will worship the antichrist and the image, and those who refuse to do so are put to death. taken from "Footsteps of the Messiah, pg 250

I was basing it on this...which may hold no solid ground if I am missing something?

Could the earth represent Israel (Jewish)...and the sea a foreigner(Gentile)...which I think the answer to that is in Dan 9:26 (rooted from the old roman empire?)

AF indicates that out of the earth emphasizes his humanity and appearing like a lamb gives the appearance of a true religious character... But I see the possibility now of what you're saying.

I don't know ether way, I think I agree with Tall Timbers though...we won't be here though, we shall be gone when this happens....we might see the beginning's of something, but you never know...by the time they are truly revealed WE will be home with the Lord...AMEN for that....their are so many possiblitys in this world, that it is hard to concieve of, from a logical point of view he would have to be Jewish for the Jewish people to accept him, but as Tall timbers said satan can and will decieve them from the truth, so in saying that we just don't know...

In Revelation 13, we see the "false prophet" will perform great, miraculous signs, even bringing fire down from heaven to earth. It reminds me in the Old Testament "show down", where the (Baal?) prophets were up against the prophet of God, Elisha (Or was it Elijah? I have to look back in the O.T.) Anyways, if I remember right, didn't that "show down" involve bringing fire down from heaven onto the altar? Well, it was proven that Elisha (or Elijah) served the true God, and the false prophets didn't.

However...we see way back in Moses' times, the magicians of Pharoah were able to match some of the same things that Moses did with his staff. Right? So, apparently, God allows demonic power to match some things -- as satan does have power (he just isn't as powerful as God, and will not triumph).

So, it appears to me, that the "false prophet" of Revelation will do something similiar than what we see in the Old Testament story, by bringing fire down from heaven, and possibly try to make it appear he is serving the real, true God. (????) In Matthew 24, in the Trib. period, the false prophets are said to perform great signs & wonders, to deceive even possibly the elect. I wonder if they will use the Old Testament Baal vs. Elisha (or Elijah) as a possible inspiration? If they were to able to almost deceive the elect, I would think the Scripture would have to be involved in some way...

I'm not sure, though (of course). All I know that the "man of sin" verses in 2 THESS show that all will be damned, who did not received the truth to be saved, all those who took pleasure in unrighteousness. Unrighteousness comes in many ways and forms.

I don't think that he will be a Jew because Daniel 11;37 claims "..he will not honour the god of his fathers..". If this was our Lord that Daniel was speaking of, would he not have said "your God "or "your fathers". Instead, he distances himself from this individual by using third person. Revelation speaks of "..those beheaded for the testimony of Jesus, and for the Word of God." There is only one religion that I know of that practices that form of execution and it is not Judaism or Christianity.
