Claims of “Two Sticks”/“Two House”/British Israelism are revealed as simply the pseudo-Historical nonsense that it always was. Even Klu Klux Klan racist David Duke admits that the gene evidence is conclusive and that Racist groups who go for Anglo-Israelism are basing their claims on quicksand.

The theology of the current "Two-House" Movement is based not upon scholarly interpretation of the Sacred Scriptures, but rather upon the theories documented in 1902 by J. H. Allen in Judah's Scepter and Joseph's Birthright: An Analysis of the Prophecies of Scripture in Regard to the Royal Family of Judah and the Many Nations of Israel. This book is available for purchase from Amazon.com or may be downloaded in PDF format. This theology is also known as "Anglo-Israelism" or "British Israelism" and was extensively promoted by Herbert W. Armstrong, founder of the Worldwide Church of God [Note1], and his son Garner Ted Armstrong, as outlined in the elder Armstrong's book The United States and Britain in Prophecy.
"British Israelism (sometimes called "Anglo-Israelism") is the belief that that many early Britons, Europeans and/or their royal families were direct lineal descendants of the Lost Tribes of Israel.
"This belief has been accorded little scientific proof or significance; its significance stems largely from its cultural significance as a concept, and as an idea historically accepted and propounded. Proponents assert that national favour with God is based on a nation's status as an Israelite nation while individual salvation remains based on a personal relationship with God.
"Due to the amorphous nature of this idea over the years, there has rarely been a central head, recognised leadership, or organisational structure to the movement. This has led to a diverse set of professions and beliefs ancillary to the genealogical claims." [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Israelism]
A brief history of Anglo-Israelism can be found at www.wcg.org/lit/prophecy/anglo/anglo-study.htm, and much of the movement's current theories can be found at www.britam.org.
"The English-Speaking Peoples Today Descend from the Tribe of Joseph; the USA is Manasseh; "Machir" first-born son of Manasseh gave his name to "America" (Ha-Macheri" in Hebrew) and this name means Capitalism; "Manasseh" means Responsible Representation; Ephraim is Britain along with the overseas "daughters" of Britain. Other Israelite Tribes gave rise to elements within Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Wales, France, Holland, and Belgium. The present-day Jews descend mainly from Judah, Benjamin, and Levi, plus representatives portions of all the other Tribes. The Tribe of Dan is to be found amongst part of the Danish, Irish, and Welsh." (www.britam.org)

An explanation of how it was determined that most Gentile Christians are actually Israelites is as follows:
After the death of King David, his son Solomon succeeded him with harsh policies that split the already fractured monarchy into the northern House of Israel (meaning “he will rule as G-d”) and the southern House of Judah (meaning “to worship with outstretched hands”). These separate kingdoms co-existed for quite some time, but they were constantly in friction with one another, even to the point of war. The Bible refers to this time as the “enmity and vexation” between the tribe of the becor or "birthright" (Ephraim), and the tribe of the shevet or "scepter" (Judah). Ephraim (meaning “fruitless”) was the youngest son of Joseph (meaning “increase”), from whom the first northern kings descended. According to Genesis 48:19, Ephraim’s descendants were destined to become the melo hagoyim or “fullness of the Gentiles.” Romans 11:25-26 states that when “the fullness of the Gentiles has come in … the Deliverer (Messiah) will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”
How is it that the descendants of Jacob through Ephraim were to become “the fullness of the Gentiles” and how is it that when Messiah returns “the fullness of the Gentiles” will come in? And what is it that they are to “come in” to?
Through the prophet Hosea’s marriage to Gomer and their three children, G-d shows us a strange thing indeed. The House of Israel (the Ephraimites) in exile was given three new names:
• Yizre’el or Jezreel, a play on the name, “Israel,” which means “God will sow or scatter like seeds,”
• Lo-ruhamah, “without mercy” or “without covenant,” and
• Lo-Ammi, “not My people.”
According to Hosea’s prophecy, “God will scatter these people like seeds throughout the earth; they will no longer be called ‘My people’ and they will live without the covenant.” Scattered like seeds all over the world, the descendants of these exiles have since been totally assimilated into Gentile cultures. They have forgotten that they are children of G-d’s covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They no longer remember that they are Israelites. They deny their Israelite heritage and deny that they are part of G-d’s covenant people. True to G-d’s promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:3b to literally “graft” part of his seed into every family of the earth, the tribe of Ephraim in its assimilation may now very well comprise part of every race, ethnic group, and culture, or the “fullness of the Gentiles.”
The "Two House" Movement is alternately known as the “Ephraimite,” “Restoration of Israel,” “Two-Covenant Israel,” or “Two Stick” Movement. Proponents of this movement contend that most members (some proponents claim that all members) of the “born-again” segment of the Christian church (by definition that would have to mean all true Christians, not just nominal members of Christian churches) are, in fact, actual blood descendants of the ancient Israelites who were exiled in the Assyrian invasion of Israel in 722 B.C.E.
In “Your Arms to Israel: Updated Doctrinal Statement Reflecting Kingdom Restoration Views of the Ministry of Your Arms to Israel” Moshe Koniuchowsky states, “the Jewish people have been the identifiable representatives and offspring of Judah. Non-Jewish followers of Messiah from all nations have been up to now the unidentifiable representatives and offspring of Ephraim (Zechariah 8:23).” [Originally posted at http://www.teshuvah.com/yati/article...storation1.htm, but no longer there.]
The same statement can be found in a slightly modified form in their current doctrinal statement:
"... the Jewish people have been the identifiable representatives and offspring of Judah. Non-Jewish followers of Messiah from all nations are predominantly Ephraim and have been up to now the unidentifiable representatives and offspring of Ephraim ..." (yourarmstoisrael.org)
Koniuchowsky’s doctrinal summary includes the following two statements that should fairly well summarize his position. Here he compares the "errors" of Christianity and Messianic Judaism to the "true faith" of his organization, which he calls "Messianic Nazarene Yisrael." It must be remembered, however, that there are a wide variety of opinions about what the term “Messianic Judaism” actually includes.
The Church
Messianic Judaism views the church as a separate and predominantly "gentile" entity, apart from the people of Israel (i.e. the Jews). Both make up the body, yet remain distinct and separate never actually fully coming together this side of heaven. The best that can be hoped for is toleration and understanding, not full unity such as joint services.
Messianic Nazarene Yisrael does not recognize the church as a separate entity apart from the covenant people of Israel. According to Messianic Nazarene Yisrael, there is no such thing as "the church", rather the ekklessia of New Covenant Israel consists of saved Jews, saved Israelites (remnant of the 10 tribes), along with non-Israelites, all making up Yahshua’s ekklessia. The ekklessia is one both now and forever.
Gentile Believers
Messianic Judaism views saved gentiles as non-Israelites, who have no Israelite blood whatsoever, having no legitimate claim to be physically descended from the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. They believe that any born again "gentile", who claims physical descent from the patriarchs, either has a drop of Jewish blood from an ancient grandparent, or are just Jewish wannabe’s, engaged in delusion. Views the concept that any saved non-Jewish believer, could be a lost non-Jewish Israelite, as utter nonsense.
Messianic Nazarene Yisrael believes that most of the non-Jewish followers of Yahshua are Ephraimites, those who were scattered amongst the gentile nations starting in 721 BCE. They were the Lo Ami of Hosea one, who were not a people, but have now been restored as individuals as promised by the prophets, through Israel’s Messiah. These latter day "gentiles", are washed and then awakened to their Israelite heritage by Messiah Yahshua, in fulfillment of many promises. Their recognition of their identity as the seed of Ephraim and their union with Jewish Israel, is a necessity for all Israel to be saved and for the Kingdom to be restored to Israel. (yourarmstoisrael.org/Articles_new/restoration/?page=12&type=10)
"Nazarene Yisrael" also teaches "[the doctrine that] something man-made called 'The Church' co-exists as a separate entity alongside the people of Israel ... [is an] unscriptural doctrine of Hell" and that:
"... non-Jewish followers of Messiah Yahshua are predominantly Ephraim, those who were once among the nations as 'lo-ami,' a non-people, but have now been restored to the Commonwealth of Israel through the Covenant of Israel's Messiah. They are the fulfillment of the promise and prophecy made to Ephraim by Jacob, when Ephraim's seed was promised to become the fullness of the Gentiles, "melo hagoyim" (Genesis 48:19).
"... that Ephraim's recognition of their identity and restoration with brother Judah is the truth that will become the salvation of all Israel (Ezekial 37:16-28).
"... Using the true Names of the father YHWH and Yahshua [as defined by Your Arms to Israel] are key to Yisrael's restoration. All those affiliated with YATI and B'nai Yahshua Synagogues must do likewise." [emphasis added] [yourarmstoisrael.org/misc/official_statements/?page=doctrinal_statement]
Please be sure to understand what this statement actually claims:
1. "... non-Jewish followers of Messiah Yahshua are predominantly Ephraim ..." That is, most non-Jewish (Gentile) followers of Yeshua HaMashiach are actually the half-tribe of Ephraim, or descended from Joseph's son; i.e., Abraham, Isaac, Jacob (whom Adonai re-named Israel), Joseph, Ephraim. That means that most Gentile Christians are actually ethnic Israelites. [Numbers 26:1-28]
2. Judah [the "Jews"] will be "saved" only when:
a. All Gentile Christians come to recognize that they are not really Gentile Christians after all, but are actually true Israelites, the physical descendants of Joseph's son Ephraim, and
b. They are restored with their "brother Judah" [i.e., when Jews recognize all these Gentile "want-to-be" Israelites are "true Israel"].
3. Israel's "restoration" to covenant relationship with Adonai requires that both Jews and Gentile/Ephraimites (who are actually "true Israel") must use the true Names of YHWH and Yahshua as determined by Y.A.T.I. [i.e.; Messiah's name must contain the shortened version of the Divine Name, Yah]. As long as either Jews or Gentile Christians refer to G-d by any name or title other than "Yahweh" or "Yahveh" ["Nazarene Yisrael" is actually divided as to the correct pronunciation of the Hebrew letter "vav" or "waw", so I'm unsure as to how they would arrive at the correct pronunciation of the Divine Name YHWH or YHWH], and Messiah is referred to by any name or title other than Yahshua, Israel cannot be "restored" to covenant relationship to Him. This makes use of the "True Names" (as determined by Y.A.T.I.) a condition for salvation, which is, after all, the real condition of the covenant relationship!
"Two-House" Theology is fraught with significant errors, and it is not the function of this website to document and refute all that error. What seems to be the opinion of many of its proponents is that everyone who has ever come into a covenant relationship with the Messiah has at least a drop or two of the blood of the Patriarchs flowing in their veins. That is, nobody who is totally Gentile has ever been “saved.” Since no Gentile has ever been saved, it is extremely unlikely that any Gentile will ever be saved.
Of significant concern to the Jewish community, and what makes this teaching extremely anti-Semitic at best (and heretical at worst) is that this movement makes out all Gentile Christians to be Jews, most of whom just don’t realize that they are Jews.[Note2]
This is, of course, an extremely valid concern to Jews worldwide. With all Jews in general, and the Nation of Israel in particular, fighting desperately to retain their right to exist as a nation and as an identifiable ethnic community, the threat of being “overrun” by millions of Gentile “want-to-be Jews” who are claiming to be the legitimate heirs to the Covenants and to the Land (Replacement Theology) is totally unacceptable.
After all, that is precisely what Gentile Christianity has been claiming since 325 CE when Constantine declared “Christianity” to be the official religion of the Roman Empire. With a single "stroke of the pen," hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of pagan Gentiles instantly became “Christian” [though most of them didn’t even know it], and Jewish Messianic Believers were shortly thereafter given the choice of either giving up all aspects of their “Jewishness” and becoming "Gentile Christians" or being “excommunicated” from what was what prior to that time an extensively Jewish, and originally an exclusively Jewish, branch of Judaism called “The Way.” Along with the right to follow Yeshua while remaining Jewish, the "Church" also took away not only Israel's claim to their Holy Land, but to all of G-d's other "eternal covenants" with Israel.
The Messianic Jewish Alliance of America (MJAA) has written a position paper in which they reject much of the teaching of Moshe Koniuchowsky and Batya Wootten. In “The Ephraimite Error: A Short Summary” the MJAA paper claims that “Wootten and Koniuchowsky build their theology of the church as physical Israel on typological and grammatically suspect readings of the stories of the biblical patriarchs and the fall of the northern kingdom of Israel in 722 B.C.E.” and describes the “Two-House” position as “Anti-Jewish” and “White Supremacy.” (www.mjaa.org/position/eph_brf.html#fn1) Their complete position paper is located at http://www.mjaa.org/position/ephraim...roduction.html.
“The Truth About All Israel,” Koniuchowsky’s rebuttal to the MJAA position paper, is available in PDF format from his website or here. You will need to download a free copy of Adobe Acrobat to read the document.
The International Messianic Jewish Alliance (IMJA) has published an excellent and scholarly refutation of the “Two-House” theory entitled "The Ephraimite Error" by Dr. Kay Silberling that may also be found mirrored here. The “Two-House” theory is rejected by all but the “extreme outer fringe” of Messianic Judaism. The conclusion of this Position Paper is as follows:
"The position of the I.M.J.A., then, is that the Ephraimite, or 'Two House' movement is in error for the following reasons:
1. flawed, unwarranted, and dangerous interpretation of scripture
2. inconsistent logic and contradictory positions
3. racist and race-based theology
4. supersessionist theology
5. historically inaccurate depiction of Israel
6. dangerous, false, and militant claims to the land which threaten the stability of the current State of Israel
It is not unusual for a group to construct a false genealogical myth, that is, one that is empirically unfounded, in order to create for itself a new story, a new mythic purpose in the world, a new ideology and sense of rootedness. It appears that this may be the impulse that gave birth to this teaching." (page 38)
My ancestors are Jewish, and I believe that my genealogy shows that I am probably a Levite; but I was born and raised fully-assimilated as a Gentile. I therefore somewhat fit Koniuchowsky’s general description of an “Ephraimite” — though I am not actually descended from Ephraim — in that I was for nearly 50 years unaware of my Israelite ancestors. However, I totally reject all forms of “Anglo-Israelism” or “replacement theology.” No matter how much they claim to the contrary, the "Two Stick" Movement, particularly as promoted by "Messianic Nazarene Yisrael" is nothing more than an extremely dangerous form of Replacement Theology.
Since Koniuchowsky claims on his website that his teachings are "true prophetic declarations," he therefore claims by definition to be a Prophet, and that his teaching comes directly from G-d (which is the very definition of a "true prophetic declaration"). Since G-d cannot make an error, then those who claim to speak "true prophetic declarations" must likewise be completely error-free in their declarations or teachings. In accordance with Deuteronomy 18, if anything the self-proclaimed Prophet teaches can be shown to be incorrect, then Believers are required to reject everything that person teaches. (The Hebrew phrase translated here as "you have nothing to fear from him" includes the idea of showing no respect, paying no attention, or ignoring completely.)
"'But if a prophet presumptuously speaks a word in my name which I didn't order him to say, or if he speaks in the name of other gods, then that prophet must die.' You may be wondering, 'How are we to know if a word has not been spoken by ADONAI?' When a prophet speaks in the name of ADONAI, and the prediction does not come true—that is, the word is not fulfilled—then ADONAI did not speak that word. The prophet who said it spoke presumptuously; you have nothing to fear from him. (D'varim [Deuteronomy] 18:20-22, CJB Read This Chapter)
He and his teachings must also be judged according to the Scriptural requirements of Deuteronomy 13:1-5.]
"If a prophet or someone who gets messages while dreaming arises among you and he gives you a sign or wonder, and the sign or wonder comes about as he predicted when he said, 'Let's follow other gods, which you have not known; and let us serve them,' you are not to listen to what that prophet or dreamer says. For ADONAI your God is testing you, in order to find out whether you really do love ADONAI your God with all your heart and being. You are to follow ADONAI your God, fear him, obey his mitzvot, listen to what he says, serve him and cling to him; and that prophet or dreamer is to be put to death; because he urged rebellion against ADONAI your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from a life of slavery; in order to seduce you away from the path ADONAI your God ordered you to follow. This is how you are to rid your community of this wickedness. (D'varim [Deuteronomy] 13:1-5, CJB Read This Chapter)

Since Koniuchowsky claims to be a Prophet, and portions of his teachings can be shown to be false, then the Sacred Scriptures define him as a False Prophet and Believers are required by Scripture to ignore everything that he teaches. [I will leave it up to the reader to determine whether or not he is deserving of the death penalty.]

could DNA testing solve all this and put the false claims to rest?
He is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings the grass from the earth. (2 Samuel 23:4)
that's not the point, Two House Lost Tribes theology is erroneous to Biblical teaching.
It's a false concept which should be rejected and avoided.
Solomon wrote "There is nothing new under the Sun." To understand the origin of this doctrine one must look first to the doctrines of the early church. First and foremost, Origen in his Contra Celsum retaliated against the Jewish apologists of his day by claiming G-d had rejected anything which came from Israel. Both Basil and John Chrysostom wrote essays concerning the replacement of national Israel by the Byzantine Church. And finally Tertullian, himself, authored "De Adversus ludaeos" a book which openly attacked Judaism as rejected by G-d. Such thoughts were rampant in early Christendom and culminated in Contantine's simultaneous adoption of a state religion and rejection of Jews. Medieval Europe was hardly any better. for the heart of anti-Semitism is the concept that G-d has cast away the Jews and chosen the gentiles. A precept which it at serious odds with the teachings of Paul and all of the other Apostles.
Romans 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
By the 19th Century Anti-Semitism was rampant throughout most of the civilized world and the Jews of the diaspora had become a people rejected by most of the civilized world. Against this backdrop an Irish Minister of the 19th Century, John Wilson, published his essay entitled "Our Israelitish Origin" in 1840. Wilson attempted to provide empirical information that supported British- Israelism. His arguments suggested that similarities to English ways in certain elements in Hebrew language and social institutions were not merely coincidental.. British-Israel organizations formed during the 1870s on account of slow, but growing acceptanceof Wilson's teachings. The linguistic argument is still the principle argument used today to support this theory. Such concepts as Brit-Ish meaning "Covenant of Man" and the Gaelic word for name being "Shaim" have become cornerstones of the Brit-Israel concept. The reality is that most of these borrowed words can be traced to the documented Semitic origin of the Celtic people. A history which shows them to be Phoenician in origin. For more detail please read my page on The History of the European peoples.
Wilson's claims that the Irish were the residue of the lost tribes found it primary acceptance amongst the Millerites. The followers of a false prophet from New York named William Miller who proclaimed that "Jesus" would return on October 23, 1844 (Sukkoth) when he failed to appear he moved the date 6 months to approximently Pesach, 1845. After the failure of his prophecies the Millerites tended to fall apart but historically many of their adherents moved were instrumental in the forming of the Adventist Sects later in the 19th Century.
By the early 20th century these beliefs had migrated to America and tended to follow two distinct pathways to the modern day. First the Millerites had become the American Adventists which continue to this day as the sect known as Seventh Day Adventists. An offshoot of that sect developed in 1927 as the Worldwide Church of God under American Adventist Herbert W. Armstrong. In 1928, Howard B. Rand became the National Chairman of the Ango-Saxon Federation of America. Rand was a notorious Anti-Semite and by the 1940s he influenced Pastor Wesley Swift of Lancaster California to adopt a mixture of British Israelism and Racial Hatred that became the modern day Christian Identity Movement, the spiritual arm of the Ku Klux Klan. The Identity movement emphatically believes that the modern day Jews are of the House of Judah, while Anglo-Saxons are of the House of Israel. The movement maintains that only the Anglo-Saxons, of the House of Israel, have a covenant with God, thereby inducing pro-white attitudes.
I must at this point submit that with the death of Herbert W. Armstrong, The Worldwide Church of God dropped British- Israelism and other unorthodox beliefs in 1995. The Church's official web page states: "We have worked hard to inform our own members about where we went wrong," and they apologize for having "taught...erroneous doctrines [like British-Israelism]."
Though the topic of this study is the neo-Ephraimite movement known as Two House Messianics and not the legacy of William Miller it is worth noting that other groups such as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) also come from this same lineage.
So the etymology of Anglo-Israelism traces the movement from one teacher using linguistic games in the early 19th century... through a false prophet to the formation of a strange legalistic sect (the Adventists) to a full blown cult (WWCOG) and its derivatives (COG) into modern day where we have seen that it produced as a sub-branch and anti-Semitic hate group. But can we possibly trace this progression to the modern Two-House / Ephraimite movement?
Servants news at http://servantsnews.com promotes the teachings of Herbert W. Armstrong who has previously been disavowed by the very organization he founded and in their May/June 2000 newsletter sponsors a conference with noted two house teachers such as Angus and Batya Wooten and Eddy Chumney. http://messianicdefenseleague.com/ephraim2.aspx
More apostasy has hit the Bible Belt. A new wave of Gentile pseudo-Christians are calling themselves Israelites with an elite interpretation of the Scriptures. These “seekers” meet in homes to “restore Israel”, proselytizing God’s elect personally with their anomalous books and message, putting truly saved Christians to shame with their “remnant” zeal.
People who once called themselves “Christians” and who used to go to church on Sundays are now “repenting” from such practices. It is arguable that the name “Constantine” is mentioned far more than “Jesus” in this movement, though both names are referred to often with disdain. It is commonly held in the groups that the term “Christian” is a disingenuous misnomer introduced to followers of “Yeshua” mistakenly through Constantine. Constantine, they teach, is also responsible for the “pagan” holidays “Christians” celebrate such as Christmas, Easter/Resurrection Sunday, and birthdays. Constantine appears to be given more credit than God’s sovereignty and the authenticity of the Bible, as Constantine is to blame for the tradition of going to church on Sundays, too. These cell groups have become quite a phenomena in spite of any attempt from traditional Christians to point these “newfound Israelites” to the Scriptures taken in context. This avantgarde is a crafty, anti-Semitic scheme from Satan, as these “messianic believers” are held captive by another spirit, another “Yeshua”, and another gospel to live as “Israelites.” Some of these groups hint (while others outright teach), that “Ephraimites [caveat: they are actually Gentiles] through faith in Yeshua” own the land of Israel. It is anti-Semitic to purport that the land of Israel belongs to a group of Gentiles claiming to be “Israelites”, “Ephraimites”, or “Jews” when they are in reality Gentiles! The land of Israel does not belong to a group of eccentric Gentiles, just because they claim to own it. Sales for country ham in the South may be on the decline as the groups grow, because these “Gentile/Jews” don’t eat pork.
The Hebrew Roots Movement is an American aggregate of home based Bible studies with various names, led often by women. The authentic Christian is challenged to write about such groups, because they all have different names, and “facilitators” argue that many attendees “believe different things” when challenged with sound doctrine. However, the spirit at work is revealed conclusively as core convictions are shared by “facilitators” and leaders of the movement.
They target church-going Christians with a sincere, godly respect for Israel. But, their visions and musings and classes in Hebrew must be put to the test as counterfeit spirits run rampant. The name of “Jesus” has become pagan to them, they explain. Hymns about “Jesus” are pagan, and the whole Christian culture of holidays and the practice of going to church on Sunday is viewed as “pagan” to these Gentile “Israelites”.
Families are divided as the cultic foray against sound teaching marches on. When Christians distance themselves from these false teachers, the “facilitators” (i.e., they are often not called “teachers” but “facilitators”) claim that they are being “persecuted for righteousness sake”. When biblically solid Christians have not been blinded by Satan to receive this latest revelation of the “non-Triune God” of the “Israelites”, these “Hebrews” are not derailed by such deaf ears for truth. They boast of how their independent groups are growing to spread the “good news” of a newly defined “grace”—they have found “grace” to keep the Ten Commandments; to these “Israelites”, like Seventh Day Adventists, their salvation is synonymous with keeping the Law. (See Galatians 5:4: “You have been severed by Christ you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.” See also Galatians 3:25).
The fact that Jesus resurrected on the first day of the week according to the Bible, and that Christians go to church on Sundays in celebration of His resurrection (Romans 14:5, John 20:19-20, Acts 20:7, Hebrews 4:1, 3, 9, and Colossians 2:16-17) does not seem to deter this group of former church-goers. Never mind that the Bible teaches that followers of Jesus were first called “Christians” in Antioch (Acts 11:26). The core of their “good news” is that all believers are Jewish or “Israelites,” and no “Gentiles” were grafted into Jesus by adoption, at least not with the traditional definition of “Gentile” or “adoption” or “Jesus”, for that matter.
My interest in this study began in the summer of 2007 when someone I know gave my mother (who lives in Franklin, TN) some books to read in hopes of teaching her that the “sus” in “Jesus” means “pig” in Hebrew, so the name of Jesus means “pig.” This pliable seeker announced with a smile that she now only uses His correct name, “Yeshua.” She continued to explain that “we have all been taught wrong”, as this person shared with zeal her new-found beliefs. She no longer believes in the Trinity; the concept of church on Sundays is pagan, and all “believers” are “Israelites.” She explained that “Yahweh” told her this is true. My mother also read in one of these books that the name “God” means “Baal.” So, the name “God” is pagan. Needless to say, Mother returned the books and said she did not even want them in her house. [See: Fossilized Customs, by Lew White; Louisville, KY, http://www.fossilizedcustoms.com; Daniel Botkin (http://www.gatesofeden.org/666.html, http://www.gatesofeden.org/affil.html and http://www.gatesofeden.org/botkin.html (Peoria, IL) ; How the Cross Became a Sword, by Richard Booker, Sounds of Trumpet, Inc., 1994].
One of the books my mother was given is entitled Fossilized Customs, by Lew White. On pages 165-166 Lew White writes:
"Jesus Christ" is a man-made fabrication....The true religion of the Messiah, His real name, His mission, and what His followers' sect was called are facts being rediscovered today by diligent seekers.
The author attacks and mocks the solid Christian ministry, Answers in Genesis, which is based out of KY. Lew White writes on page 163 a passive-aggressive, demonic sort of twisted endorsement of these precious Christians, as he is referencing their work. He writes that Answers in Genesis has a "scholarly bi-monthly magazine"…but described them as:
“...CHRISTIAN SCIENTISTS WHO ARE CURRENTLY PIG-EATING SUN-DAY WORSHIPPERS, BUT THEY COULD CHANGE AT ANY TIME NOW.” [Lew White, Fossilized Customs, p. 163]
Much more has been sent to me and said about me to show this “set apart spirit” these “Ephraimites” claim to have in all of its darkness. As the quote above shows, it is often purported that “Jesus” is not the real name of the prophesied Savior from Nazareth. Author Lew White suggests that the letter “J” is a new letter in the alphabet, so “Jesus” could not have been the correct name of the Messiah. Funny, how the demonic spirit at work has such an aversion for the name of “Jesus”, starting with a “J”, while the same devotees often boast of being of the tribe of “Judah”, also starting with the newly invented letter “J.”
As these cults have hit close to home, seducing dear loved ones and my family in TN, Scriptures have been searched to compile this fact sheet through many tears.
The Hebrew cults teach “Yeshua the Messiah” Remarried the House of Israel After His Death:
…Remember, I mentioned previously that it would be important to remember that the God ('elohim) of Israel who was married to the House of Israel and the House of Judah was the one who became Yeshua the Messiah. As we read earlier (Jer. 3:8), God divorced the House of Israel. However, in Jeremiah 3:14 and Hosea 2:16, we see that it is prophesied that both houses of Israel would once again be married to 'elohim and would call him "my husband." These prophecies present a serious problem, for the Torah specifically outlaws such a remarriage [Deut. 24:1…]. God is true and just; He does not change, and He does not break His own Law. Therefore, how can these prophecies be fulfilled? There is a legal way for this to occur, as Paul tells us in the book of Romans [Romans 7:1…] As Paul clearly states, this Law ceases to apply if the husband dies. Therefore, Yeshua's death on the cross caused this law against remarriage to no longer be applicable. Now, after his resurrection, Yeshua the Messiah is legally able to marry the House of Israel once again. http://users.aristotle.net/~bhuie/2houses.htm
This is perverted. Jesus was “married” to His own before the foundation of the world! He prays for His own in John 17 before He died. It is a perversion to say that he had to be “allowed” to marry after His “divorce.” It is filth from hell to teach this.
The Bible teaches:
“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons to Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will.” Ephesians 1:2-5
The Hebrew Cults teach all “Believers” are Jewish (“Israelites”/“Ephraimites”) With an Erroneous Interpretation of Matthew 12:18-21:
…we see the deathbed blessing of Israel upon Ephraim when he adopted him and his brother Manasseh. Israel prophesied that Ephraim would become "a multitude of nations." In Hebrew, this phrase is melo hagoyim, which literally means "fullness of the Gentiles." The tribe of Ephraim was the leader of the northern House of Israel, and Ephraim came to be representative of all 10 lost tribes. It seems clear when the Old Testament references are understood properly that Paul had the descendants of these tribes in mind when he spoke of the "fullness of the Gentiles" and the "wild olive tree" in Romans 11! http://users.aristotle.net/~bhuie/2houses.htm
The Bible teaches:
Revelation 1:7: “Behold He is coming with the clouds and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him and ALL THE TRIBES OF THE EARTH WILL MOURN OVER HIM, even so, Amen.”
Every tribe, the Bible teaches, will be held responsible for piercing Him. There is no favor here mentioned for “Ephraim.”
“In that day the Lord will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who is feeble among them in that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the Lord before them. And it will come about in that day I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem, and I will pour out on the house of David the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced, and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him, like the bitter weeping over a first-born. In that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem.” Zechariah 12:8-11
But, wait a minute! I thought only “Ephraim” would get God’s grace. That is what the “Hebrew” cults teach! After all, so their gospel goes, we are all of either the House of Judah or Ephraim, making all “believers” Jewish. Satan uses the Bible to pervert the Bible. The aggregate of cults in the Hebrew Roots Movement* teach that we are all Jewish, giving the term “Gentile” a new meaning. [Caveat: we are reminded once again, just like Charles and Myrtle Filmore wrote a whole dictionary to give verses “new meanings” called The Metaphysical Bible Dictionary (these founders of the New Age cult, The Unity School of Christianity, came from a mainstream Protestant denomination, by the way), Satan loves to use the Bible (demons know it well) to twist it and pervert it, to bring glory to people and not Jesus, with a covert attack on the Trinity, the true people of God, and the Bible. Also Herbert Armstrong also taught this “lost tribes” teaching in the Worldwide Church of God.]
*The laughable irony is that hardly anyone is truly Jewish in this movement! See this article with a forte from cult expert, Rick Ross: http://www.rickross.com/reference/ge...eneral776.html
Hebrew Cults Teach Universalism:
“Restoration of Israel” facilitator*, Linda Semler, in Brentwood, TN, teaches all Jews who are victims of the Holocaust will be saved in the end with or without belief in Yeshua. [We have been told the “Restoration of Israel” independent study group is mainly comprised of charismatic “messianic families” from Bethel Chapel (http://www.bwoc.org/) and Belmont Church (http://www.belmont.org/) in Nashville, TN]. This was copied from a discussion board http://nc2house.jiglu.com/discussion/messages/899115:
The Jewish people were blinded for the sake of the Gospel.** So for the past 2000 years they have been blind, directly from the hand of Yah. Now did all those Jews die and go to hell? Oh and then how about those as shown in Schindler's list, lined up for the ovens, did they die and go to hell when we know any Jew who knows he is dying as his last word says the Shema. I would say most of the Jews slaughtered for 2000 years died crying out to the God of Israel. Did they go to hell because of their blindness? I don't think so. I believe every Jew today who seeks YHVH in their personal life is in good standing when they ask forgiveness for their sins BECAUSE OF THE "IT IS FINISHED" work of Yahshua, whether they know His name or not. I could go on and on but I BET I just stirred up a hornet's nest, which I really hate, so everybody be kind when you tell me I am wrongBlessings, Linda
Ah, but if only that had been the case as the discussion was defiled with more error from “Brian” as he shared where he was “at right now” and carried Linda’s point even further to teach that no one is going to hell:
...When you ask what about those who are not elected, who are not chosen, you open up another hot potato. I have come to believe that there will be a universal reconciliation after all is said and done. That all will eventually be saved, although there will be levels of reward. That is to say those human beings chosen to be vessels of wrath will NOT spend eternity in hellfire. I base this on several Scriptures, such as Romans 11:32: “For God has shut up all in disobedience that he might have mercy on all.” And again in Romans 4:18 Paul says, “So then as through one transgression (Adam’s) there resulted condemnation to ALL men, even so through one act of righteousness (the cross) there resulted justification of life to ALL men.”Also to take the broad view, it does not seem consistent with a loving God to create people to play the role of sinful opposition to God’s will (as Pharaoh) and then condemn them to an eternity of torture. What’s more, if Jesus came to save the lost, Satan will have the last laugh because more humans will go to hell than to heaven. So we see that the issues of predestination, free will and hell all come into question in this discussion. I realize many of my positions directly challenge traditional Christian teaching on those subjects. I’m not saying I have the final answers. I’m just sharing where I’m at right now. [source: http://nc2house.jiglu.com/discussion/messages/898126]
*Linda Semler is referred in Restoration of Israel Bible Studies as a “facilitator” rather than “teacher”.
**2 Corinthians 4:3-4 states that Satan blinded the eyes of the unbelieving. “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God…”
The Bible Teaches:
Jesus said: “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” Luke 13:3
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone…” Revelation 21:8
The Hebrew Cults explain that all believers are “physical Israelites”:
Scripture seems to indicate that, for the most part, those who have been called by God to His son Yeshua (John 6:44, 65) are physical Israelites, both from the House of Judah (the cultivated olive tree) and the House of Israel (the wild olive tree). http://users.aristotle.net/~bhuie/2houses.htm
Eddie Cumney, founder of Hebraic Roots International, heads a “synagogue”. He is also lauded within the “Restoration of Israel” “Bible” Studies in Brentwood, TN, as an authority and featured author as the members of this Tennessee sect study his teachings. Here is some information on Eddie Chumney:
Eddie Chumney, who was a computer specialist before going full-time into “the ministry” almost a decade ago, heads a “synagogue” in Stark County; his members, he claims, come from Tuscarawas, Carrol, Stark, Wayne, Summit and Cuyahoga counties. Chumney also founded “Hebraic Roots International,” which claims a database network of subscribers in all 50 states and in 55 foreign countries. He travels extensively, both nationally and internationally, at the invitation of gentile groups who want to hear about their “lost (but now found!) heritage.”
Raised Protestant, Chumney says he was “awakened” to what the New Testament “really” teaches after studying Jewish texts and taking Torah classes from a Reform rabbi in Akron. Chumney accuses Jews of “blindness” for not acknowledging their “Northern Kingdom” relatives. He threatens that peace will only come to Israel when they do so. He also says that Christians are “drunkards like Ephraim,” who have been lied to over the millennia n mostly because of the Catholic Church n as to what Jesus really taught (sic).
The gospel according to Chumney is that Jesus came to “unite the two kingdoms” (i.e., Jews and “Israelites”) and teach the “Israelites” (gentile Christians) to observe Jewish law. Of course, this is contrary to halachah (Jewish law), which actually says gentiles are forbidden to observe Shabbat, a doctrine which Chumney asserts is false and put forth by “the rabbis.” It’s a title he occasionally uses himself. (See sidebar, p. 29.)
While Chumney alludes to both Jewish texts and the New Testament scriptures, mixing doctrines and beliefs from both, he chafes at the accusation that he has made up his own religion. He simply wants “the house of Judah” to recognize “the house of Joseph” (his house) and for the latter to recognize Jesus’s “true” mission “foreshadowed in the Torah when those who received the law at Mt. Sinai were the only ones who escaped Egypt because they had put the blood on their doorposts.”
Chumney asserts that “obviously, there’s not going to be paper documentation” for the Ephraimite/Northern Kingdom/Lost Tribe/ House of Joseph connection. The only “proof,” it seems, is that one adheres to Chumney’s instruction.

The Bible warns:
“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: The first and the last who was dead and has come to life says this: ‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich), and the blasphemy by those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a Synagogue of Satan.” Revelation 2:8-9
These cults teach a “lofty” and elite knowledge that is not led by the Holy Spirit.
“Oh Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge.” 1 Timothy 6:20
They love the place of honor and the chief seats in the synagogues and respectful greetings in the market places and being called by men, “Rabbi.” But do not be called “Rabbi, for One is your Teacher…” Matthew 23:8
“If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing, but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words…” 1 Timothy 6:3-4
The Hebrew cults teach Another “Yeshua”:
Batya Ruth Wootten, a guru of this cultic movement, teaches the unbiblical doctrine that Jesus is/was the Father incarnate and that Jesus is “omnipresent”:
Thys Yeshua’s divinity cannot be such that He is separate from YHVH. He could not have come into being after the preexistent [sic] God, because He said, “ Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after Me.” (Isaiah 43:10) Neither could Yeshua be a “mini-Deity.” One cannot be “a little bit pregnant,” and Yeshua cannot be, “a little bit Deity.” He is fully Divine or not at all. He shares the Father’s pre-existent [sic] nature or He is not true Deity, and He was there, as Creator, “in the beginning with God.”( John 1:1-5). Further, to simultaneously live as He does in the hearts of many, Yeshua must be Omnipresent. [sic]

The “Two House” Discussion Board Teaches the Son did NOT Eternally Exist Distinct from the Father
Trinitarian Christianity interprets these verses to label the Son of God as "the Creator." Yet, I was thinking today that none of these verses state that He "made all things" but that God made all things "by Him" or "through Him." I might be going out on a limb, but I feel confident to say that no verse uses the language "he created" but rather they all word it as the Son being the means by which all things were created. This is a big difference. http://nc2house.jiglu.com/discussion/threads/395250
A big difference, indeed! For to deny the Trinity is to deny the God of the Bible.
The Bible Teaches One God in Three Distinct Persons:
The Bible does not teach that Jesus is omnipresent. Batya Ruth Wootten’s “Yeshua” sounds more like the omnipresent cosmic Christ-consciousness of the New Age. The Jesus of the Bible is at the right hand of the Father in Heaven (1 Peter 3:22). Here Batya Ruth Wooten teaches a different God, because she is not teaching the correct God of the Bible, who is a God in three distinct Persons.
The Bible teaches the Son is not the same Person as the Holy Spirit
See Acts 5:1-3 which shows that the Holy Spirit is a distinct Person of the Trinity who is a personality, not an object that is lifeless. See Acts 13:1-2—Only a person can speak “I” which designates personality. The role of the Holy Spirit is to convict and comfort (John 16:7-8) ) and bring glory to Jesus (John 16:14). The Holy Spirit is a distinct Person from the Father and the Son.
The Bible teaches that the Son is NOT the same Person as the Father
Jesus said:
“Pray then, in this way: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.” Matthew 6:9
Jesus knew He was not the Father! He was physically speaking to the people, yet He taught them to pray to their Father in heaven.
Jesus said:
“I and the Father are One.” John 10:30
He did not say “I am the Father”!
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God…” John 1:1-2
God says:
“…But of the Son, He says, ‘Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever…therefore, God, thy God, hath anointed Thee…’” Hebrews 1:5-14
Here we see God, the Father, calling God, the Son, God. We see they are two distinct Persons according to the Bible.
“but God raised Him from the dead.” Acts 13:30
“that God has fulfilled His promise to our children in that He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm. ‘Thou art My Son; today I have begotten Thee.” Acts 13:33
“…God raised up His Servant…” Acts 3:26
God, the Father, raised God, the Son. They are separate Persons.
Here is yet another passage to show that Jesus is NOT the same Person as the Father:
“I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven One like the Son of Man was coming, and He came up to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion, glory and a kingdom, that all the peoples nations and men of every language might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away. And His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed.” Daniel 7:13-14
Jesus is not the same Person as “The Ancient of Days” in this verse.
2 Corinthians 11:4: The Bible warns that cults teach “another Jesus” and “another Gospel” with “another spirit.”
“Two House” Theology Teaches Sinners are “One Flesh” With Jesus:
“Also, no need to go into the adoption issue. I have read and entirely agree with Batya's analysis of the adoption theme in scripture. More importantly, it is not my view that gentiles are merely "adopted" any more than believing Jews are. For me to say that would be to say that Christ is adopted, which would be blasphemous. I am "one spirit with the Lord." As the bride of Christ, I am "one flesh" with Him. What is true of Him is true of me, but it is because of Him, not me! I inherit through His flesh, and His flesh definitely was not adopted, as I said. I'd like to see you at least acknowledge that I am not teaching the "adoption" thing.
One more point. You deny me the right to call my own position a "physical/spiritual" view. Why? Does not Jesus have a physical body? If so, then I have every right to call it a physical view, and not purely spiritual.
All of this revolves around whether anyone has the faith to believe in what is unseen. My union with Messiah is not open to the senses, but it is very real! Only faith can grasp it. That is why I don't expect folks without that same faith, ie like the rabbinical Jews, to acknowledge my true identity as Ephraim Israel UNTIL they themselves have been given the gift of faith to grasp who I am…who I am in Messiah, that is.

Albert James Dager astutely warns in Vengeance is Ours: The Church in Dominion (p. 13):
“Many have also adopted a form of cosmic humanism, believing that they are capable of achieving the same anointing of Christhood that Jesus had. Their beliefs are predicated upon a new Gnosticism which appears so very Christian as to deceive even the elect if possible.”
The Bible teaches that People are Sinners NOT “Christs”
“Therefore God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:10
And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name and say, ‘I am the Christ’ and will mislead many.” Matthew 24:4-5
“For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
“Before Me there was no God formed and there will be none after Me. I, even, I am the Lord, and there is no savior besides Me.” Isaiah 43:10-11
“…I am the first, and I am the last, and there is no God besides Me. And who is like Me? Let him proclaim and declare it…Is there any God besides Me? Or is there any other Rock? I know of none.” Isaiah 44:6-8
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, “declares the Lord… Isaiah 55:8
“I am the Alpha and Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8
Hebrew Cults Attack the Church:
But there are also those who reject this understanding for the same reason that the Pharisees and Sadducees rejected Yeshua: they are afraid it will "take away" their perceived position. http://users.aristotle.net/~bhuie/2houses.htm
These cult leaders infer that those who would hold their teachings accountable to the Bible (such as the author of this fact sheet) are akin to the “Pharisees” and “Sadducees.” In truth, these teachers are the people with the pharisaical, elite mindset that would serve to see themselves as superior to orthodoxy and Christians who go to church on Sunday. In fact, these teachers are full of pride in that this false knowledge glorifies their human ego and not Jesus.
See this quote from Linda Semler, “facilitator” for Restoration of Israel Bible Studies, Brentwood, TN:
Originally from: Linda Semler:
What happens to many, as was my case, was that I came through some very brutal church situations. All this was part of the Lord's plan for my journey through the church realm. However the anger and resentment I carried from these terrible church experiences, coupled with the knowledge of the Constantine deception and history of the church about did me in. Then I also became super sensitive to the church's persecution of the Jewish people. I became very embittered about Christianity and the church. I think we have many Christians in this posture today. Disenfranchised and disenchanted. Now however, after many years of working through all this garbage I have a better understanding of the church's role in history and it's role today. Unfortunately my antennae is too sensitive to the pious hirelings and religionists to be able to go back into the church world and be able to control my mouth. So I sit out here on the desert in peace awaiting the next move of the Shekinah. Uh, you guys seem to be it and I am completely enjoying seeing the Lord work through you all.

Here Batya Ruth Wootten mocks Christians who would take issue biblically with her teachings:
“In the New Covenant the Father warns, ‘Esau I hated.’ Romans 9:13. For believers to think lightly of their call to be the ekklesia of Israel’s firstborn is to risk a sin like that of Esau. We do not want to be like him, nor do we even want to be one of his neighbors, for they too were destroyed [sic] (Jeremiah 49:10).”

Laurie Moore, with “Restoration of Israel” Bible Studies in Brentwood, TN, degrades pastors and the Church in promotion of her “new interpretation” of the Bible:
“…there are not to many Christians [sic] that see what the Church is operating under unless you are coming from another country. I too have been accused of being in error and a cult. I know they said that about Yahshua and even Martin Luther took incredible attacks because he too came against the status quo…The sad reality…is that the church is like the Pharisees were when Yahshua walked the earth. The part that grieves me is that no one wants to turn from there ways [sic] and even look at the text of scriptures. We are here and we are praying. We too often put men in places that the LORD belongs and when He begins to uncover His truth, people do not want to admit or change from their ways. They did the same thing to Yahshua when He came…”
In His Service,
Laurie Cardoza-Moore

The Bible says:
First of all, there is a God given structure for the home and for the Church which teaches that women are to be submissive to men . In some of these cultic independent Bible studies women are often the facilitators. Yet, the Bible clearly teaches:
“Wives be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord, for the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.” Ephesians 5: 23-25
True Christians who make a stand for God’s Word are often referred to as “arrogant”. Here is a good verse to give to people who call us “arrogant” and “unloving” just because we measure all truth according to sound teaching of the Bible. There is a place for strong language against error. Look at what people said of Paul:
For they say, “His letters are weighty and strong, but his personal appearance is unimpressive, and his speech contemptible.” 2 Corinthians 10:10
Look at what Incarnate Love had to say in these words of Jesus:
“You serpents you brood of vipers, how shall you escape the sentence of hell?” Matthew 23:33
There is no place for a haughty spirit which looks down on other Christians according to the Bible. These independent groups share a common “elite” view of the Bible over other Christians, accompanied often with speaking in tongues and visions. We must test the spirits:
“Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self abasement and the worship of angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind.” Colossians 2:18
There is no place for arrogance in a Holy Spirit-filled person according to the Bible; there is no place for “elite” knowledge, proudly “set apart” or “above” other Christians according to the Bible:
“Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose…with humility of mind, regard one another as more important than yourselves…Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality of God a thing to be grasped…He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross…so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow…” Philippians 2: 2-11
“Oh Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge” which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith…” 1 Timothy 6:20-21
“For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing he deceives himself.” Galatians 6:3
Cult leaders sometimes claim they are being “persecuted” and are experiencing “suffering” for Christ when their errors are brought to the light biblically. But, there is a difference in biblical suffering and counterfeit suffering. The biblical suffering always brings glory to Jesus, not the person; it does not come as a result from some elite knowledge the person has been given over other Christians. Biblical suffering is not a result of human righteousness but a righteousness based on regeneration by the Holy Spirit:
“That I may be found in Him not having a righteousness of my own derived from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith. That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.” Philippians 3:9-10
“Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless you fail the test? 2 Corinthians 13: 5
“Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:32
When Christians do not associate with cult leaders, refusing to accept “strange” doctrines or interpretations as God’s truth, Christians are being obedient to the Bible:
“If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of that person and do not associate with him, so that he will be put to shame.”
2 Thessalonians 3:14
“Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting; for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds.” 2 John 9-10
“For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth.” 2 Corinthians 13:8
“Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them.” Ephesians 5:11
“Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.” 1 Thessalonians 5:21
Hebrew Roots Movement is an attack on the authority of the Scriptures:
Batya Ruth Wootten writes:
We must understand this salient point of biblical law: The Father and the Messiah both decreed that, for a matter to be confirmed and/or believed in the earth, it first must be upheld by “two or more witnesses.” It is therefore logical to conclude that they too [sic] must have confirming witnesses before their collective truth (Genesis through Revelation) can be established in the earth.
[Source: Batya Ruth Wootten, Redeemed Israel, United and Restored, 54-55, Copyright 2006, Batya Ruth Wooten, St. Cloud, FL; Key of David Publishing, St. Cloud, FL, http://www.keyofdavidpublishing.com]
The verse to which she is referring on the two witnesses is found in Matthew 18:19. However, TAKEN IN CONTEXT, this passage is referring to church discipline! There is nothing about doctrine of the Bible needing to be affirmed by two witnesses!
Her husband, Angus, writes in the Foreward of the book that this teaching will “help guide believing Israel back on course and onto the Kingdom Road. It will help prepare the way for Messia’s return”:
The God of Israel has often used women to help keep men and His plan for Israel on course…I thank God that He has used my wife, Batya, and her faithfulness to uncover Israel’s true identity. Her tenacity has helped keep not only me on course, but to take a giant step towards helping the Father accomplish His ultimate desire, to have a people for His own possession. This book, the result of her quest for truth, will surely be used by the Holy Spirit to help guide believing Israel back on course, and onto the Kingdom Road. It will help prepare the way for Messiah’s return and the restoration of the Kingdom to Israel. [Redeemed Israel, United and Restored, Batya Ruth Wootten]
The Bible teaches:
“I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ for another gospel; which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you, and want to distort the Gospel of Christ. But even though we or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed. For am I now seeking the favor of men or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:6-10
“We have renounced the things hidden because of shame, not walking in craftiness or adulterating the word of God, but by manifestation of the truth, commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:2

There is a growing movement making inroads amongst Protestant churches and Christian homes called the “Hebrew Roots”. Akin to the Seventh Day Adventists and the Jehovah’s Witnesses, it teaches in fringe studies a salvation based on keeping the Torah where one sleeps through an afterlife until bodies are physically resurrected. The Hebrew Roots movement appeals to Christians who are drawn to studying Israel and the Jews, so much that they are swayed to believe they are Jewish! Taking Scriptures out of context, the movement bases itself an array of unique interpretations for Scripture, making for a new “Jew”, one that was formerly known as “Christian.” [i]
Like many commentators on “Hebrew Roots” this author senses –correctly- that there is linkage between Seventh Day Adventism (SDA) and the conglomeration of allegedly protestant judiasers known as “Hebrew Roots Movement”(HRM). While in no way denigrating the scholarship of this author- among others- the evidence supports the thesis that HRM is simply SDA by other means, that most HRM promoters are either denominationally SDA or of any of several SDA splinter groups. There is also evidence that at least some HRM promoters have received financial, material or organizational support from the SDA organization at some point in their careers.
However just as some HRM promoters have endorsed “soul sleep”- a uniquely SDA doctrine- as the above author later noted- SDA has in fact promoted the hallmark HRM doctrine, “Two House”, (also known as “Two Sticks” “Christian Idenity” or “House of Ephraim”) long before the Hebrew Roots Movement existed. HRM operatives characteristically promote Two House doctrine without footnotes, references or attribution. So if they are unique men of God as they all claim- then we are expected to take seriously the implied claim that they all were moved of God –independently mind you- an argument made previously by Ellen G. White in the 1880’s. Using the same terminology, and the same verses used out of context as proof texts, we are also expected to take seriously that these self-proclaimed prophets were given heavenly license to massively plagiarize previous texts on these subjects. Those familiar with SDA will have some knowledge of E.G. White’s plagurazations of biblical proportions and the subsequent lame excuses and lame spiritualizations of said excuses by SDA leadership since…
Above Scripture: Ellen G. White
No knowledge of SDA is complete without extensive biographical knowledge of E.G White. By way of introduction, SDA is today is almost exactly what E.G. White made it. It is exclusionist (The One True Church) with an emphasis on Old Testament legalism, which they DO consider necessary for salvation (although this intermittently denied, at other times they are confrontational about it). And in like manner SDA per White has post-tribulationist eschatology, which again it is openly confrontational. Numerous clear statements of the bible are arbitrarily allegorized, as in denying that Jesus was born of a virgin and in the denial of a literal hell. E.G. White was nontrinitarian, as are all HRM promoters. SDA only adopted the trinity as official doctrine in the 1980’s with extreme reluctance, (more than sixty years after the death of E.G. White) and is rarely taught in SDA fellowships.
E.G. White was a prominent 19th century false prophet who predicted the return of Jesus in 1843, 1844, 1845, 1850, 1851and 1915. There are 39 documented cases of E.G. White uttering false prophecies and more are certainly to be found if White’s writings to be surveyed further. This tradition is continued by HRM teachers. Michael Rood, for example, has predicted the return of Jesus in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003. As one wag put it, the official HRM prophecy policy is if at first you don’t succeed, Fail! Fail Again!
E.G. White was a teenager in an Adventist church known for rather Pentecostal manifestations when she claimed to have a vision of God. In a rather out of body experience she was shown all “four moons of Jupiter” (later changed to eight). She got the number wrong, twice, but no matter, it suitably impressed a wealthy sea captain in the fellowship, whose donation was sought after at the time, and whose consuming hobby was astronomy.
Miss Harmon began a slow climb up the church hierarchy, aided by numerous visions. She later married Mr. White, a very prominent Adventist elder. They were known to be a dour couple, minutes of Adventist meetings reveal the participation of Mr. White largely limited to railing against individuals in the church hierarchy. Many of Mrs. White’s visions were happily of a content to humble various Adventists, mostly individuals Mr. White had previously mentioned…
Mrs. White’s personality quirks were legion. Alternative health ideas were much the rage in the late 19th century; Mrs. White promoted them in a big way- nor did she see the need to keep such claims separate from church doctrine. Her promotion of vegetarianism was such that to this day two food companies exist to cater to Adventists who believe that they will go straight to hell if they ever eat meat. This in spite of the fact that Mrs. White’s personal correspondence –and numerous first-hand testimonies- reveal her quite anxious to obtain fresh meat in quantity for her own table. She was in particular known for her craving for fried chicken. Needless to say, the Adventist confession of faith says nothing about vegetarianism, and nothing is said about Mrs. White’s chronic obesity revealing her a hungry hypocrite.
Mrs. White’s correspondence spends much time bemoaning the penury working in the ministry, but alas the penury had it limits, as the numerous photos of the couple display numerous outfits of formal attire. The residence in the background is sumptuously decorated. They traveled overseas to fashionable destinations with balmy climate for years at a time when the relative cost of such travel was substantially more than it is today.
In like manner, nothing is said in the Adventist confession about observing a Saturday Sabbath being necessary for salvation. Yet no more repetitive claim ever issued from the lips of E.G. White whose lips positively smacked in anticipation of you being sent to hell for your not doing so. Certainly the idea had been floating around Adventist circles earlier, as evidenced by Independent Adventist churches who observe Saturday but whom in no way accept the infallible prophetess status of E.G. White. It comes as no surprise that the SDA organization today is not particularly forthcoming about just how divisive the prophetess claim was at the time. Nor is this basic article of SDA faith mentioned in the Adventist statement of Faith.
Suffice it to say that Mrs. White, who had an extremely rudimentary education, was not intellectually equipped to evaluate her famous, indeed signature, theological claim. Nor apparently are her followers since. As 1st Timothy 1 says of judiazers:
They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.
How do I know, by using the Bible of course. The true Sabbath, it is rarely on our calendar Saturday. Because- surprise! Surprise! That’s the Gregorian calendar nowhere mentioned in the bible! Even Michael Rood, who claims to have an “amended and corrected” Hebrew Calendar, never turns his attention to the simple fact that the true Hebrew Sabbath- on the biblical calendar- falls on our Saturday no more than 15% of the time. Nor do the actual Jews of the western world, who understand the practical chaos such biblical observance. Hence observing Sabbath on our Saturday in no way constitutes obedience to the law.
Gal 2:16 not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.
Gal 3:11 clearly no one is justified before God by the law,E.G. White spent much time fervently excoriating spiritism, i.e. a familiar spirit. At that time spiritism was a byword for what is now known as the New Age. In this an issue must be raised, for scholarly papers have noted that E.G. White consistently used Freemasonry terminology and concepts, indicating that she extensively read- and accepted- such literature. Such literature is known to promote a novo ordo seculorum-widely mistranslated as new world order. Actually, according to Casell’s Latin Dictionary, ordo is not order but age. Hence it is properly translated New Age, Secular.Mrs. White’s theology neatly fits into the secularity of this concept in as much as she consistently denied Christ, conforming to the Adventist claim that Jesus was really the archangel Michael.
In like manner, Mrs. White quietly admitted that she had a familiar spirit. The many visions were attended by the appearance of a person, who never identified himself. This is in marked difference to biblical appearances, where even lesser angels at least identified themselves as angels. Thus like Mohammed before her, E.G. White markedly wandered in the identification of her familiar spirit. In her early years, she referred to him as “the young man”, in her middle years she referred to him as “the angel” by which she meant Christ/Michael, and in her latter years she referred to him as the “Spirit of Elijah”. As one cult researcher put it, the “Spirit of Elijah has deep meaning to Adventists”. You bet. Predictably, the “Spirit of Elijah” makes frequent appearances in the teachings of Hebraic Roots Teachers.
Lev 20:27 A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.
I rather doubt that Mrs. White, who spent her career promoting Old Testament legalism, would care to have had this verse enforced in her personal presence. Today, Mrs. White visions are referred to by Adventists as the “Three Angels Messages”, supposing that the young man, the angel, and the Spirit of Elijah are all different angels.
Predictably, devotion to the Three Angels Messages is nowhere mentioned in the Adventist confession of faith. Yet it absolutely defines Adventism. A recent brochure I obtained regarding the Adventist radio station network, Three Angels Broadcasting Network (3ABN). The program manager, whose photo is displayed on the front cover, affirmed his mission as “spreading the Three Angels Messages”. Whatever that is, it is not the gospel of Christ; there is no possibility of that. To be sure, such Adventists trot out the proof text of Rev. 16:6-12.
Wikipaedia said the following:
The Seventh-day Adventist Church has traditionally believed that it is the remnant church of Bible prophecy, and that its mission is to proclaim the three angels' messages… The image of three angels circling a globe is the church's former symbol. The current logo of the Seventh-day Adventist church has three flames encircling the globe, representing the Holy Spirit; the threefold flame is also a symbol of the three angels.
Three flames symbolizing the Holy Spirit are unbiblical, but that never stops Adventists. Wikipaedia continued:
The third angel’s message is a solemn warning against observance of Sunday as a sacred day, which Adventists have historically interpreted as the mark of the beast. “Those who reject God’s memorial of creatorship—the Bible Sabbath—choosing to worship and honor Sunday in the full knowledge that it is not God’s appointed day of worship, will receive the ‘mark of the beast.’
Needless to say, Revelation 16 says nothing at all about that. One has to rely entirely on the visions of E.G. White exclusively for that.
Public VS Secret Doctrine
In the 1950s, a prominent professor of New Testament, Donald Grey Barnhose, together with graduate student Walter Martin, wrote a letter to the leadership of the SDA organization, asking to clarify what their doctrine was. It is clear by this very act that Barnhouse and Martin were entirely unaware of SDA’s bitter hatred and pronounced damnation to hell of all other Church organizations, and their continual fulminations of mainstream believers as having received the mark of the beast, and therefore unsaveable. The letter in reply was a paraphrase of the Nicean creed and mild-mannered exceedingly. No mention was made of any unique doctrines. Barnhouse and Martin concluded that the Seventh Day Adventists were a mainstream church. What they did not know was that production of letter very nearly created a palace revolt. The staff at world headquarters thought the leadership had gone apostate.
Doctrinal errors such as annihilationism, no hell, no virgin birth, denial of Christ, no substitonary atonement on the cross, soul sleep, misgenation race theory, 1844 investigative judgment, human self-perfectionism, Saturday Sabbath salvation, and many others reveal a deep hostility to the bible. Simply put, it was regarded by White as an assortment of verses to be pulled out of context for the most fanciful of interpretations. White was firm her denial of Christ:
"Those who accept the Savior, however sincere their conversion should never be taught to say or feel that they are saved. Those who accept Christ, and in their first confidence say, I am saved, are in danger of trusting to themselves." (Christ's Object Lessons, p. 155).
To every one who surrenders fully to God is given the privilege of living without sin, in obedience to the law of heaven. God requires of us perfect obedience. We are to purify ourselves, even as he is pure. By keeping his commandments, we are to reveal our love for the Supreme Ruler of the universe." (Review and Herald, September 27, 1906,p.8).
"To obey the commandments of God is the only way to obtain (earn) His favor." (Testimonies, Vol. 4, p.28).
Ellen G. White wrote that a person cannot fully understand the Bible without her writings. White's visions are considered divine revelations. She claimed to have been caught up to heaven. The Seventh Day Adventist movement has only been in existence since 1843. One wonders how people understood the Bible before she came along? However, having firmly settled on Old Testament legalism as her required substitute for atonement on the cross and the gospel of grace, and then having imported a Saturday Sabbath that was then fashionable among Adventists generally, and supporting that in the strongest way possible, Mrs. White became aware of a problem:
"Wherefore the CHILDREN OF ISRAEL SHALL KEEP THE SABBATH, to observe the Sabbath throughout THEIR generations. It is a SIGN BETWEEN ME AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL." (Ex. 31:16,17).
"Speak thou also unto the CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, saying, Verily my SABBATHS YE SHALL KEEP: For it is a SIGN BETWEEN ME AND YOU." (Ex. 31:13).
"Moreover also I (God) gave them (Israel) my Sabbaths, to be a SIGN BETWEEN ME AND THEM." (Ezek. 20:12).
It is interesting that ancient rabbis advocated the death penalty for gentiles who kept the Sabbath. Needless to say, this ancient piece of rabbinical wisdom you are not likely hear from your Hebraic Roots Savant any time soon.
Advent of British Israelism
To understand how SDA originated “Two House” theology, one must first realize first and foremost that E.G. White was anything but an original thinker. All of “her” ideas, from soul sleep to Saturday Sabbath observance, were standard faire of at least a significant fraction of the Adventist movement at the time, and as such she was a populizer of such trends, not an originator. Secondly it must be understood that they were adopted piecemeal, or at very most for motives current then. The derivation of Two House from then-available Adventist fringe theology components for motives current in the mid-1880’s, when Mrs. White derived it, is a complex but easily supported chain of events.
In like manner, no knowledge of “Two House” is complete without some knowledge of its rather infamous predecessor British Israelism. Cult scholars agree that “Two House” is little more than a terminology repackaging of British Israelism. This is also now the official position of genuine Hebraic messianic groups such as the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America (MJAA), the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations (UMJC), and the International Messianic Jewish Alliance (IMJA).[i][i]
British Israelism is a classic ten lost tribe’s theory, much like Mormon founder Joseph Smith’s fanciful identification of the American Indians as the ten lost tribes, and about as well supported. Nevertheless we are told to focus on millions of lost “Israelites” on various continents descended from the scattered Northern Kingdom of Israel/Ephraim that was taken into Assyrian exile in 721 B.C.E. and after that, to imagine that we are the descendants of those missing Jews. Hence WE have title to the land of Israel.
As such, British Israelism functions as kind of spiritual identity theft. And as Dave Hunt of the Berean Call has noted, it is the most perniciously anti-Semitic of all cult doctrines, even as it professes great love for all things Jewish. It views Israel now in the land as 10/12ths incomplete, if not an outright fraud. Needless to say, it has spawned numerous armed supremacy groups, such as the Branch Davidians, who regarded themselves as the true Seventh Day Adventists. (And you wondered by what flight of fancy “David Koresh” claimed descendency from King David.)
One wonders how this can be supported with evidence. It is easier than you think, if one is wiling to be not too scrupulous with context. All languages on earth are related. For example the word for Korean for moon is moon. The word for mouse in Persian (Farsi) is mousche. Hence, having determined by their psychic power that 10/12ths of Jews are now English speaking gentiles, all one needs to do is promote links between Hebrew and English and quietly discard the tens of thousands of links to still other languages.
Scotsman John Wilson, who in 1840 published his theories in Our Israelitish Origins, is generally looked upon as the founder of the British Israelites. His appearance of scholarship and his oratorical abilities were enough to sell his notion to the public. Wilson was by no means the first to make the British-Israelite identification. The idea had been floating among eccentric British Mystics for some time.[ii][ii]
The basics of British Israelite theology are quite simple, although a working knowledge of the Old Testament is required to trace the intricacies of the logic. The basic premise is that Israel and Judah were two entities, the former comprising the northern 10 tribes, and the latter the two southern ones after 922 B.C.E. Members of the northern kingdom, after being freed from captivity, wandered into Europe and settled in northwest Europe, Scandinavia, and the British Isles. Jeremiah, the prophet, is believed to have transported Tea-Tephi, the daughter of King Zedekiah, to Ireland to marry Prince Herremon, thus continuing Israel's royal lineage. James I was the first descendant of this union to reign in London.
Different countries of Europe are to be identified with the different tribes; Britain and the United States are descendants of Joseph's two sons Ephraim and Manasseh, and, as such, are particularly blessed (Genesis 48). The tribe of Dan has, in fulfillment of prophecy (Genesis 49:17), left numerous signposts of its tribal meanderings–Dan River, Denmark, Danube River, and others. From this basic theology, other observations are made in correlating biblical quotes with isolated facts of archaeology, legendary materials, history, and philology. Wilson was the first to note the supposed correlation between the Hebrew word for covenant, "brith," and "Britain." The Stone of Scone is believed to have been from the throne in Jerusalem, brought to Ireland by Jeremiah. (Actually, it was quarried in Scotland.)
An Adventist author wrote the following:
“Adventists who refuse to assume the Jewish connection of the Sabbath have suggested instead a number of options: the Sabbath has come to them, not from the Jews, but from a “spiritual remnant” which survived throughout the ages; Adventists who consider themselves as the heirs of this remnant do not owe the Sabbath to the “rejected”Jews but rather to these faithful Christians.”[iii][iii]
It is ironic that the author can only mention British Israelism as some variant opinion of some (unnamed) Adventists, as if such a thing can occur in SDA without the suffrage of the SDA leadership, or contrary to the teachings of E.G. White. Neither is possible, and likewise its absence from the Adventist Confession of Faith is hardly surprising.
But Herbert W. Armstrong, who would go on to form the major Adventist splinter group, in 1929 stated the following: I am returning from the Arkansas[Adventist] conference... and have just finished the manuscript on the Third Angel’s Message and British Israel.... [iv][iv] Armstrong subsequently wrote an entire book on the third angel’s message, which was of course about British Israelism.
Adventist founder William Miller encouraged his followers to read British books on biblical prophecy. It seems there was some communication between American Millerites and various British prophecy buffs. Thus, Millerism helped set the stage for the introduction of Anglo-Israelism into the United States. That would explain how Adventist George Storrs, a former Millerite, came to recommend Our Israelitish Origins. It may also be one reason why the book sold so well in this country.
After the Great Disappointment, i.e. Miller’s failed prophecy, George Storrs continued working for the Adventist cause. Storrs’ most important contribution to Adventism came the day he started teaching that the dead were unconscious. Storrs believed the dead are not in heaven, nor are they in hell. They are asleep in their graves. People, he said, do not have immortal souls. They must be given eternal life through Jesus Christ at the resurrection of the saints.
In 1863 he helped found the smallest of the Adventist bodies, the Sunday-observing Life and Advent Union. In 1964 the Life and Advent Union merged with the larger Advent Christian Church. Although the Life and Advent Union represented an extremely small branch of Adventism, Storrs' influence far exceeded its meager numbers. Every branch of Adventism, including the Seventh-day Adventists, the Church of God (Seventh Day), Jehovah's Witnesses and the Worldwide Church of God owe their doctrines of conditional immortality (soul sleep) to him.
Because of Storrs' widespread influence, a recommendation by him of Our Israelitish Origins would have spread Anglo-Israelism among American Adventists. One can be reasonably certain that if George Storrs recommended a book, then others would have read it. One who may have followed Storrs' alleged recommendation was the evangelist R.V. Lyon. Lyon believed Ezekiel 37:15–28 to be an important restorationist prophecy. It speaks of the reunification of Judah and Israel, and how they are again to be ruled by one king.
Accompanying Ezekiel’s message of doom is one of hope. In chapter 20 Ezekiel proclaims God as Israel’s king (20:33). As savior, God will deliver them from their tribulation. He will bring them within the bond of the covenant (v. 37). The nation will revive within this renewed relationship (vv. 40-44). In chapter 37 Ezekiel prophesies that God will revive Israel, a people described as dead dry bones lying in an open field. God will place his spirit within them, giving them life (Ezekiel 37:13–4).
Lyon, having started typologically, then applied a literalist hermeneutic to every other part of Ezekiel 37. So, although David was understood typologically, the reunification of Israel that David would bring about was thought to be literal. Lyon did not explain how he justified his inconsistency.
In his discussion, Lyon ignored the early chapters of Ezekiel, which speak of Israelites and Jews as already dwelling together (see Ezekiel chapters 3-4, 8-11). Missing also was Jesus’ claim that the Jews were "the lost sheep of the House of Israel" (Matthew 15:24). For Jesus, "House of Israel" and "Jews" were synonymous. Finally, Lyon did not discuss the New Testament’s witness that God has already made the new covenant with spiritual Israel — the church (Luke 22:20; 1 Corinthians 11:25; 2 Corinthians 3:6; Hebrews 8:6). Lyon argued that the church must look beyond the Jews to find Israel today. Yet to the question, Where is Israel today? Lyon offered no answer. Lyon cuddled up to Anglo-Israelism, but apparently did not embrace it.
Though not widely known among the general public, Lyon and his prophetic doctrines were known and welcomed among Adventists.[v][v]
Shortly after taking over an Adventist Church periodical, Advent and Sabbath Advocate, a Jacob Brinkerhoff reprinted Lyon’s tract about Israel. Though the question, Where are the lost tribes? Remained unanswered, it was not long before some Sabbatarian Adventists thought they knew the answer. In 1884 the paper reported that a Brother Ellsworth believed in Anglo-Israelism and had converted several to it. This is the earliest known statement unambiguously showing that some Sabbatarian Adventists had accepted Anglo-Israelism, though as we pointed out earlier, the belief had entered the Millerite movement in England before 1845.
At this point, we must point out that Mrs. White had unlimited confidence in Miller, despite his failed prophecy of 1844 for the return of Jesus. Likewise, she had not been shy about plagiarizing George Storrs conditional state of the dead, i.e. soul sleep. R.V. Lyon’s interpretation of Ezekiel has long since been SDA faire, and has since been replicated in books by Eddie Chumney other HRM savants.
The timing was provocative. E.G. White had her 28th angel vision (now known as the third Elijah message, or simply THE Elijah message) in 1886 or so, when Jacob Brinkerhoff’s articles were still on the coffee table. Having painted herself into a corner over not observing Saturday rest being the Mark of the Beast, and now fielding much un-wanted questions as why the Old Testament specifies 7th day Sabbath for the Jews and Jews alone, the outcome was a forgone conclusion. Although then focusing on Elijah, she now needed a portal to Ezekiel. It was not hard to find:
Mal 4:5-6: 5 "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse." NIV
This was made to order for E.G. White reinterpretation; strike the land with a curse is obviously post-tribulationism. Mrs. White’s own familiar spirit was Elijah before the great and dreadful day. (Mrs. White may have changed the declared the identification of the familiar spirit shortly before for just this contingency.) And thus turning the hearts becomes the public realization that British Israelism is true. Add a suitable additions in interpreting the two sticks in Ezekiel 37 and you have Two House theology complete and entire.
A website called “Two-House News Network” (THNN) has taken umbrage at something called “The Ephraimite Error” white paper. This theological position paper is a co-production of the Messianic Jewish Alliance of America (MJAA) and the Union of Messianic Jewish Congregations (UMJC), under the auspices of the International Messianic Jewish Alliance (IMJA). The white paper is an analysis of the Two-House (Two Sticks) teaching and basically says that it is in error, flawed, and even heretical. This august panel of genuine Hebraic scholars also identified the theology of Two House as British Israelism.
The Two House News Network website replied by stating the following:
we believe that there are more Israelites—physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—on Planet Earth than just the 14-15 million Jews of today. We believe that there are possibly many more millions of lost “Israelites” on Planet Earth descended from the scattered Northern Kingdom of Israel/Ephraim that was taken into Assyrian exile in 721 B.C.E., We believe that in this hour the God of Israel is gathering Judah, or the Jewish people, together with scattered Ephraim (many of whom may be found in today’s Christianity) as one people in Messiah Yeshua. We believe that God has only one group of elect, the people of Israel, composed of Judah and Ephraim and their companions. We do not believe in a separate entity called “the Church.” And, we believe that all Israel is called to uphold and follow the Torah—the constitution of Israel.
Much of this runs completely contrary to what is taught in mainstream Christianity and most of Messianic Judaism. Evangelical Christianity widely teaches that God has two groups of elect: Israel and “the Church.” Most in Messianic Judaism believe the same, and that as Jewish Believers they can co-belong to both assemblies.[3] The vast majority of Christians and many Messianic Jews do not believe that non-Jewish Believers should follow (any of) the Torah. And, because the Lord has two groups of elect, it is often said that “the Church” will be whisked away into Heaven prior to the Seventieth Week of Israel in the pre-tribulation rapture, leaving a faithless Israel—considered to be the Jewish people—behind to face the antimessiah/antichrist.
As it should be stated quite candidly, THNN Online does reject these beliefs.[vi][vi]
They add: “The Two-House teaching, when compared to other doctrines and teachings of our faith, is relatively new”. As usual, no mention of when or where exactly this comes from. Strangely, the article, as we have seen, blandly rejects all Christianity and Judaism combined, yet it spends most of it’s time caterwauling how their unique, and recent, beliefs can’t get a fair hearing among same. Here as elsewhere, HRM is double-minded exceedingly. But very much one in mind with SDA. Now the THNN website has freely admitted that their religion is Christless, the bible is an unreliable document, and denies the beliefs of messianic Jews and orthodox Jews both, to boot. The remnant exclusivitism of E.G. White is now coming back to the surface.
“we advocate a belief in the reunion of all Israel, and a return of all Believers to the truths of God’s Torah and their Hebraic Roots” Note: since in Two House all elect of God are Jews genetically and nothing else, Hebraic Roots has by definition nothing to do with a better understanding of God’s word, as has been so often been claimed. They are now admitting that they have been liars and are on record that they have another gospel. Strangely, I recall a book somewhere that ALL LIARS will burn in a lake of fire. Hows that for Torah Observance!
Rogues Gallery of Two House Teachers
Batya Batya Wootten and Marshall, a.k.a. Moshe, Koniuchowsky
Wootten gives contradictory claims as to how all believing Christians throughout history could be physically descended from the ancient northern Israelite exiles. At times, they argue that all people on earth are physically descended from Israel. At other times, they concede that there may indeed be "perhaps some true Gentiles" among the believers. Or call believing followers of Yeshua "another 'sect' of Judaism," without any explanation as to how they can be a sect of Judaism and not Jews!
Wootten further confuses things by declaring that Gentiles become Ephraimites only at the moment when they become "grafted in" to the olive tree of Israel and no sooner. Thus we see wild contradictions in the effort to explain how non-Jewish Christians today can be natural descendants of ancient Israelites.
Finally, Wootten protests repeatedly that their claims to Israelite heritage are physical and are not spiritual. Yet, the basis for their claims are often wholly subjective -- when "you knew in your 'knower,'" as Wootten claims. She cannot have it both ways. Either it is physical or it is spiritual. Wootten makes both contentions, but ultimately she rejects the spiritual angle and bases her argument on physical, race-based claims.
I will list several parallels that are striking in their agreement. Both groups (Anglo-Israelites and Ephraimites) build their theories on the mythic story of the ten "lost tribes" of the northern kingdom. Both groups put great store by suspect and contrived etymologies of English words based on Hebrew. Both groups claim pre-eminent, "first-born" status as purported heirs of Ephraim. Both share an innate hostility toward Roman Catholicism and Judaism. Both proclaim that the teaching they propound is a "mystery" revealed only through their teachers. Both argue that the lost tribes migrated to areas where they eventually became known as Saxons. Both groups make mention of the nobility of Anglo-Saxons as evidence for their biblical, Israelite heritage.
Wootten's and Koniuchowsky's words elicit the gravest concern in the images they construct for the future. For along with their claims to be physical Israel, they expect someday to wield territorial control over 10/12th of the ancient tribal boundaries of Israel. They create an "enemy" that includes Jews now living in regions once occupied by the ancient tribal groups, which, they contend, now belong to the Ephraimites. For the Palestinians they expect total eradication. In the pages of both Wootten's and Koniuchowsky's writings lies a strong assumption, sometimes stated implicitly, sometimes explicitly, that the land belongs to them (along with the Jewish people, whose portion, they contend, should be limited to 2/12ths of Israel's territory). For the "Two House" proponents, the land of Israel is "their land”. Traditionally, Anglo-Israelite thinking has also included an expectation that the land would be theirs as physical Israel.[vii][i]
Bill Jacobson
His website purpose is "Introducing Seventh Day Adventists to the Original Hebraic Roots of Their Faith." Jacobson is a second generation Seventh Day Adventist and his wife is a third generation SDA. He believes that Messianism and YAHwism is compatible with SDA. His website is to help SDA's get back to their Hebrew Roots and also remain in the SDA faith.[viii][ii]
Bill Cloud
For over three years, Bill served as chief researcher, writer and publications director for Perry Stone, another two house teacher; Bill’s ministry training is otherwise apocryphal. Bill claims great faculty in Hebrew, but unable to spell Hebrew names correctly. He will not disclose denominational background, also great friends with Eddie Chumney, another two house teacher. Denies any distinction between Church and Israel, and falsely claims some Old Testament prophets were Gentiles. Recently gave a talk at Koinonia Institute conference that constituted two-house pre-evangelism.
Brad Scott
Scott gives the impression, that there are over twenty-three thousand verses in the Old Testament that contain teaching on the word “repent,” and that all modern lexicons ignore this “teaching.” The fact is, there is only a handful of Old Testament verses that use the verb “repent,” or its noun form “repentance,” and not one of them supports Scott’s definition.
Brad Scott plays a “shell game” with the Hebrew words. He declares by fiat that the Hebrew equivalent of the Greek word “metanoew” (repent) is the Hebrew word, “shoov” (Strong’s #7725). He offers not one shred of linguistic or historical evidence in support of this claim, which is THE fundamental premise of his entire series of articles on repentance. While it is true that “shoov” (or “shoob”) does mean “return” in many cases, it does not always. Strong’s Hebrew lexicon states this very clearly.
Scott’s claim that his perverted “repentance” (return to the Law of Moses) is essential to salvation puts him and his movement in the same camp as the ancient Judaizers who “troubled” and “unsettled” the Gentile believers. Paul called that message “another gospel” and told the Galatians that those who embraced it were “estranged from Christ” and “fallen from grace” (Gal. 5:4).[ix][iii]
Eddie Chumney
Known for his book “Restoring the Two Houses of Israel” which has standard SDA artwork on the front cover. This book is widely used to teach Sunday school in SDA churches. The terminology and arguments used therein used displays considerable familiarity with the writings of E. G. White. Chumney will not disclose his denomational background.
Michael Rood
Rood’s ministry instability is infamous. He currently operates his ministry as a for-profit business rather than submit to a board of directors- even one composed of close friends.
Rood denies that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and actively seeks to turn Christians away from their faith. He uses certain titles like "Messianic" to lure folks into listening to him, - but he is not a Christian, he is not a Messianic Jew, and he is not Jewish. He is no scholar, either. Rood used to be a big-wig in The Way International (founder Victor Wierwille). This infamous 1960’s sex cult is for the most part an offshoot of Armstrong’s World Wide Church of God. As such, the baseline theology is SDA.
Some ex-Wayers have stated that Wierwille and other Way leaders taught that the Holocaust was a myth concocted by the Jews. Wierwille also taught that "Jews are actually an impostor tribe from Siberia, not the Bible's chosen people." Wierville had an exceedingly high opinion of Yassir Arafat. The Way International also denied that Jesus was God. Weirville taught that the Old and New Testaments were originally written in Aramaic, Rood now claims the entire bible was written in Hebrew, again without evidence. The acorn has not fallen far from the tree. Rood has admitted that he has no ministry training outside of The Way, and claims it was still a great move of God.
As a result, Michael Rood claims to be living as a Torah Observant Levite, although he is not Jewish, nor of the Levitical lineage. Nonetheless Michael believes he can act as a Levite Priest. Given claimed belief in anglo-israelism, it is easy for him to imagine he has this license, an in like manner his bible reading has never gotten as far as the full-blooded Jewish king who was struck down with leprosy for acting as a Levite.
Rood's overarching argument is basically this: the NT and Christianity were hopelessly corrupted by paganism. From there, He mostly rehashes Dan Brown’s claims in The Da Vinci Code. Rood even makes the wildly inaccurate claim that the Greeks “called all their gods, from Adonis to Zeus, Christos” (p. 76), while in reality, in the Greek, Gentile world, christos as word was very obscure, so much so that it often mistaken for a proper name. Conclusion
First, the point needs to be made that Two-House is anti-historical. Recent archaeological discovery of cuneiform documents regarding Assyrian exile in 721 B.C.E., enumerate less than 28,000 deportees, at time when Israel “Ephraim” had a population in excess of two million. Hence there were never ten lost tribes. The book of Acts and John’s letters both mentioned the ten tribes as still being in the land. Thus Two-House (British Israelism) is anachronistic nonsense.
Eastern European Jews, for example, are far more genetically similar to North African and Middle Eastern Jews than to non-Jewish eastern Europeans, while Jews in Russia are six times more genetically distinct from Russians than Russians are from Germans. MacDonald also reveals that although there are some slight differences between Ashkenazic (eastern European) and Sephardic (Mediterranean) Jews, all the Jewish populations of the world essentially constitute a single genetic population.[xi][v]
Genetic researchers Sachs and Bat-Miriam discovered amazing similarity between the Jewish populations of nine countries of North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Europe. Conversely, they found sharp differences between Jews and non-Jews from those same countries. In studying blood group data, Mourant, Kopec, and Domaniewska-Sobczak wrote in a book called The Genetics of the Jews that it may be said that, in general, blood group data … support the relative homogeneity of the main historical Jewish communities.
Another study compared modern Jews and those of 3,000-yearold Jewish skeletons discovered in the Middle East. Sofaer, Smith, and Kaye studied dental morphology from Morocco, Kurdish Iraq, and Eastern European countries. They found more likeness between the widely scattered Jewish populations than for the Gentile groups living near them. The ancient Jewish skeletal group turned out to be far more similar to the three Jewish populations than for every non-Jewish group studied except for one, an Arab Druse group from the 11th century.
Another statistical genetics study, of European Caucasians in the U.S. stated that “Using a principal components analysis, we found that the individuals with full Jewish ancestry formed a clearly distinct cluster from those individuals with no [known] Jewish ancestry. Using the position on the first principal component axis, every single individual with self-reported full Jewish ancestry had a higher score than any individual with no (known) Jewish ancestry.[xii][vi]
As such the claims of “Two Sticks”/“Two House”/British Israelism are revealed as simply the pseudo-Historical nonsense that it always was. Even Klu Klux Klan racist David Duke admits that the gene evidence is conclusive and that Racist groups who go for Anglo-Israelism are basing their claims on quicksand.
HRM has little theological function than to promote Two-House and any other wacknut idea that strikes the various promoters as a potential profit center. That most HRM promoters habitually refuse to disclose their denominational background or the exact nature of their theology training ought to seen as a warning sign. Although HRM operatives claim that they have great fluency in Hebrew, their inability to spell Hebrew proper names correctly is somewhat suspicious…
Whether Two-House is SDA or not makes little difference in the broader theological perspective. The Denial of Christ, the Old Testament legalism, and the deliberate mucking-up of distinctions between Israel and the Church are the same in any case. However, the numerous theological links, sameness of terminology, same proof texts, organizational links, and other connections, combined with the simple fact that HRM and Two-House in no way predates SDA, places an excessive strain on credulity.
One need to keep in mind that Revelation 2 speaks of those “the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not”. Here from Jesus’ own testimony is the firm statement that the church age will be marked by false claims to Jewish ancestry, inspired by Satan himself. The key word is Blasfhmi (Strong’s 988) which means to speak evil of God. But what is missing from our use of Blasphemy is that a harangue is implied. One cannot miss the railing nature of speech from HRM teachers. And not in the Greek is an absolute negative. One should not miss that one has only two sets of genes, an allele inherited from your mother and from your father. Thus, from eight great-grandparents, you can only be descended from two.
Savants like Batya Wooton and Michael Rood simply must have prodigious amounts of psychic power to evangelize only those who have inherited a crypto-Jewish allele, despite all odds to the contrary. At that only from your mother mind you, since only that counts towards Jewish nationality. Absent such preternatural psychic power, such individuals are now demanding that people blaspheme God en masse.
2 John 9-11:9Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. 11 Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work.
Long read, Buzz, so I only was able to scan it quickly.
I have a book of cults, and British Israelism is one of the chapters. The connections to other cults stemming from that unscriptural sect is mind boggling.
Interesting, isnt' it, how everyone seems to be desirous of being part of the lost tribe?
I had been told once that the Jews today are not the people associated with the promise of God to Abraham. Only the line of Judah could claim that.
Yes, Solomon was right, there is nothing new under the sun.
Your article documented much of what is happening here in the South. I was unaware of how prevalent these groups had become. It's all so creepy. Why is man still looking for some secret way to God, that no one else is privy to?
Well, Satan is still wooing and seducing.
Need to get back to the Word!
Thanks for the post. Perhaps later I can dissect it more thoroughly.

Fruchtenbaum that is.
Jeff
And Zola. Levitt, that is.
And the Apostle Paul. He was a Jew of Jews, the top credentials. But look how he fought so hard against Judaizers in Galatians, against false doctrine and wolves who crept in to spy on the FREEDOM of believers in Messiah Jesus. He would be appalled, I think.

Oh, and if this isn't a sticky, can we make it one? I'd like to refer anyone I come across entangled in this false doctrine to come and read.

Most false doctrines start out with the right precept but end up with the wrong interpretation, and some of these are pretty far out in left field.
If the two stick represent the church and Israel, and one replaced the other, there would only be one stick left, not two,
but it goes to show how ignorant some of these interpretations are.
Few people realize that most everything Jesus said or done points to prophecy.
Jesus deliberately waited until the fourth day before resurrecting Lazarus, foreshadowing his appearance on earth in the fourth day. (day=1000 years)
The two day's Jesus spent with the Samaritans foreshadowed the two days he will spend with the church.
There is a wedding which the mother of Jesus (Israel) does not attend, the lamb's marriage, and there is a wedding celebration in Cana in which both Jesus and his disciples and the mother of Jesus is there.
This cana marriage takes place in the third day, Jesus being born crucified in the evening of the fourth day, makes the third day from his first appearance the seventh day, or millennial reign.
Of course this breach between God and Israel will be healed during the tribulations and the Church and Israel will become one during the millennial reign.

false doctrine begins with disbelief in scripture and twisting verses to fit self serving agendas
The church replaced Israel because of apostasy and Israel does not replace the church, they have separate purposes.
ignorant interpretations start out through ignorance of properly understanding scripture
Jesus came to fulfill predictions and sacrifices, to present Himself as king to the Jews, to redeem mankind lost by the first Adam, and to rule the nations, prophecy is about 20%
Jesus stalled raising Lazarus to prove he really was dead, has nothing to do with 1000 years.
you are reading into scripture and putting into it what isn't there, this is a sign of poor hermeneutics and misunderstanding scripture and the bible's system of theology
more poor hermeneutics, reading into the text with irrelevant circumstances, a dangerous sign of a cult
Scripture does not say this, you are reading into scripture what is not there, the same way people dicipher tea leaves, animal guts, and astrological alignments
Healing will only be for those who receive Jesus during the trib and during the second coming, Israel will be restored at the second coming.
God's purposes for Israel is fulfilling His promise to Abraham that he would protect his seed and show the nations His power and salvation.
You need to focus on personal salvation, not separating or combining tribes.
The Holy Spirit combined all races at Pentecost, the races were scattered at the tower of Babel due to the sin of rebellion and through Jesus they were recombined because of His crucifixion for sin, resurrection for new life, and His anointed healing through the Holy Spirit.

The exact year no, but it's coming down to the wire that we only have about three left to choose from, if you believe that the generation of her branch will not pass any more than the generation of his branch, and the generation of his branch was 70 years, parable of the fig trees.
If her branch is to be the last generation and there are to be six days, then her branch could only be restored within a generation of the end of those six days.
Ho 6:2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
The seven kingdoms prophesied in Revelation 17 must exist before the Antichrist arrives, the seventh Kingdom, Revive Roman empire is being established now through the banking system, who ever controls the money, controls the world,
The Antichrist seizes control of this one world government becoming the eighth kingdom.
Nothing casually is written in scripture, every word has a purpose, when it mentions days, it's revealing a schedule.
That's what the parable of the fig trees say, and about 5-6 other prophecies as well.
You've lost me here, the Bible is both spiritual and literal, depending on the context,You need to stop spiritualizing the scriptures because that is dangerous and cultic
one prophecy "can be" interpreted both spiritual and literal and be true either way in the proper context, the promise to "send Eliajh" is a good example.
Mal 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Mt 17:10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not,
but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
Mt 11:13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
Mr 9:4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: (Two witnesses) and they were talking with Jesus.
Re 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
The prophecy was to "send Elijah", not someone "like him".
Preterist look at the "Spiritual" and say the prophecy is fulfilled, the church sees the "literal" and says it's still in the future,
Few see that one prophecy can have both a spiritual fulfillment to cover Jesus's first coming and a literal fulfillment to cover his second coming.
And there are many other such prophecies, especially Jesus's promise to be "back on the earth" early in the morning of the "THIRD DAY". (Seventh day/First resurrection)
