    The Principal Thing
    By: Maxine M.

Graduation day has finally come; the day you thought was only a distant dream
The day you’ve completed “educational study”, ready to go ahead full steam
Able to face the coming years, your confidence and self-esteem are in full extreme

But be aware of that dauntless SELF assurance; it makes your image inflated in your own eyes
Those days of education can make you full of facts & knowledge, but haven’t made you wise
Are you prepared for a difficult situation and the consequences that may arise?

Because WISDOM, insight, intuition, perception can’t be gained only in a classroom
Often it’s life experiences that teach us more than higher education, we can presume
By listening and watching those who are successful, their common sense we can assume

Interestingly the Bible states, the BEGINNING of wisdom is to fear the Lord
Not in terror or trepidation, but in awe & respect, showing reverence toward
Acknowledging His all-mighty power, that ALL things move at His command cannot be ignored

Wisdom brings prudence, discretion, foresight for the problems we face
And it pleases God to GIVE it and watch it grow, as in Solomon’s case
As He used him to write down Godly proverbs for us…words of acceptance, love & Grace

Smart, well-educated men and women can go forth and climb the ladder of success
But only by following Godly wisdom can we keep from making life a real mess
Through the Holy Spirit’s wisdom any of our problems we can address

By education and higher learning great riches & wealth we often can acquire
But wisdom says, SAVE some, GIVE some, spend some on what you desire
Prepare for the future, but also don’t make your only goal being able to retire

Wisdom tells us that the Creator has a PLAN in mind…one just for you
A path for YOU to follow, which is to be the focus of all that you do
So when you move on to use that education, check to see if your spirituality also grew

As life isn’t guaranteed to always be smooth & happy, that you’ll never cry
And because this earthly life WILL end, for its appointed unto man once to die
Thus, our preparation should extend even beyond death, the term “eternal life” will apply

For God created the SOUL…the invisible, immortal, indestructible part of us that won’t pass away
But every soul has a different destination, either Heaven…in Jesus’ presence every day
Or Hell!! Forever vanquished from all that’s Godly, lovely & good, absolute darkness…no shades of gray

The comparisons are dramatic: the fulfilled promise the Gospel message will send
All our needs and desires met, no health issues, financial woes…on our Saviour totally depend
Verses: enormous torment, pain, isolation, misery, anguish, all to which nothing in this life can comprehend

Yes!! Wisdom is the principal thing to get (Proverbs 4:7), the ability to understand
To grasp the greatness of the Gift of Salvation; the redemption God had planned
Our heart can KNOW that we’re on our way to the glorious promised land

When we TRUST that the Father sent His Son to PAY sin’s debt…wash away it’s awful stain
That by His almighty & inexhaustible power, Jesus was resurrected from where He had lain
Believe that He’s coming back as Judge, as King of Kings to forever reign

The only WISE thing is to make SURE you’ve accepted the gift His sacrifice brought
Embrace His saving GRACE, ready to obey His commands, find the peace we’ve sought
Pick the right future destination, of which the Holy Spirit’s guidance taught

Select the choice God has given us every day, to follow Him out of love, not force
So if we end up in that eternal darkness, it’s our fault for choosing the WRONG course
You knew about the Way of Salvation, but went your own way without remorse

So as you venture out to put your education to use…the path to success prevail
Spend time with the GREAT TEACHER, trust His example so you’ll never fail
Let God’s wisdom direct your decisions, control the life’s course on which you sail
