Combining RR-BB.com into RaptureForums.com

Because it has become insanely difficult to manage a bulletin board these days, the managers of Rapture Ready and Rapture Forums have decided to join our boards together under a software program that is easier to manage. Because RF has their database operating well under an Enforo license, we decided to make Rapture Forums the focal point of a consolidation. Since Chris, the owner of RF, has long experience in running a forum, he can better manage the problems that come with this technology.

If you do not have an account at https://www.raptureforums.com/forums/, please sign up. By the end of November, it will become the forward address of RR-BB.com

If you even suspect you have a UTI (urinary tract infection) get into your doctor for antibiotics ASAP. My MIL did not - she tried to cure it with cranberry juice. In the space of 4 days it went from the first symptoms of a UTI to full sepsis.

    Yup.

My sisters, both of them, almost died from kidney infections.

I almost died of one in 1993. I had taken antibiotics and doc said I was fine, and I was, for a few days... ended up in the hospital with a fever of 104 and didn't get out for a week.

I am very careful with bladder infections.

Even my husband got a bladder infection that almost killed him while he was in the hospital. He became even more delusional and kept screaming.

Isaiah 6:8 I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “ Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?”

Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

      To the OP...thank you.

Praying for your MIL. She may have been trying to save money by not going to the doctor.

You need to be seen by your doctor if you suspect a UTI.

Also - NEVER use over-the-counter urinary 'treatments' such as homeopathic medications or AZO

ALWAYS consult with your doctor, not a pharmacist.

Just to add to the info.

In elderly people, UTI's can manifest as delusions. My mom, who is 94, lives in a seniors' care facility. When anyone goes a bit more "wonky" than usual, the first thing the staff do is have them tested for UTI's. Occasionally, it's something else, but in probably greater than 90% of the time, it's a UTI.

I'm in my 50's & have never had one. I consider myself blessed.

sepsis, wow, that's vicious. FYI, D-mannose, as found in health food stores, is a great prophylactic and can nip a mild one in the bud. It's saved me from a lot of antibiotics. But yes, get thee to the doctor for a nasty.

Very true. My 86 year old mother went for too log in a nursing home acting completely sick and strange until she herself noticed a "burning" sensation over her bladder. It took way too long for them to figure her out.

Luckily she's expected to make a full recovery - she'll be in the hospital about a week, though.

In her case, it wasn't to save money. She just didn't want to deal with making a doctors appointment for something she thought she could cure with cranberry juice. She's 78 and like hsmommy indicated, it manifested as kind of being "out of it" the 24 hrs before as opposed to pain or aching in her kidneys and then she pretty much lost her ability to communicate, function normally, etc and she spiked a 104.7 fever. Luckily FIL called 911 when that happened.

                  Here's another interesting thing.

My husband had a horrible accident about 9 years ago.

He had a severe head injury, and was pretty delusional. He hallucinated. Didn't faze me a bit.

Anyway, he had a catheter. One day he was particularly "crazy", they did some tests, and sure enough he had a UTI. Once the antibiotics kicked in he got back to himself.

He was only in his late 40's, at the time.

She had a small heart attack last night. We were hopeful the sepsis hadn't harmed her organ systems, but it looks like it has. We're waiting to find out which other organ systems might be impacted.

Thank you 1forChrist. She's doing well. I don't know how long it takes to recover fully from it - she's still weaker than she was 6 weeks ago when it happened, but she's sounding more and more like her old self on the phone. I'm hoping we can go down and visit this weekend. We've stayed away because the kids have had one virus after another since the end of January and we haven't wanted to give her body anything else to fight off.

A friend of mine's mom had a stroke several months ago and is still recovering from it. She had to go thru physical therapy and has had a difficult road.

Bless her heart. It will a tough journey, but she will get there with love and prayer.

                            Keeping her in my prayers.

Anyone know of a message board or website for elderly questions? My mom is 86 years old and her doctor wants her to have a colonoscopy "because it's been 8 years since her last one". Her doctor says she is in good health except for low vitamin D (so upped her to 5000 IU daily). Anyway I know that no medical advice can be given here, but I (and my mom) would like some input from others with similar situations about such things. I find things online but I am looking for something more age specific for someone over 85 years old. Any help would be so appreciated.
