It's a trap that many people fall into and I agree it is idolatry, our bodies are supposed to be a temple to the Lord, and what we do when we put those images in our mind or masturbate is we bring idols into the temple of the Lord. Look at what the Lord said to Israel:

Therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your vile images and detestable practices, I myself will withdraw my favor; I will not look on you with pity or spare you. A third of your people will die of the plague or perish by famine inside you; a third will fall by the sword outside your walls; and a third I will scatter to the winds and pursue with drawn sword. Ezekiel 5:11-12
And if you read further what was the result of their deeds, he withdrew his favor and they were taken into captivity by the babylonians. The same is with our bodies if we let the vile images and destestable practices take over our minds and bodies we are defiling the Lord's sanctuary and we let ourselves get taken into captivity to sin.

It's been said a few times but I want to say it again, there is a course for those of us who deal with sexual sin and who have been battling with it for years (14 years for me), www.settingcaptivesfree.com

God gave you the strong urges because it is the urge to procreate. However, God also gave you self-control, and it is yours to utilize. I don't care how aluring the pictures are that you look at or how tempting the woman you see on the street is. If you can't control yourself, then you have a weakness that You have to deal with. If God can't trust you to control your lusts be faithful to your wife in this short time here, how can he trust you to be faithful to Him forever?

I'm not saying I condone pornography. I'm just saying the responsibility to control lust in Any environment falls on to the individual, not the book or video.

A weekness we have to deal with. I for one honestly couldn't deal with mine until I let christ reign in my life and let him take care of it. I couldn't deal with mine because everytime I tried, I failed. Maybe you could deal with yours, but it's not the same way for everybody else or we would have already done it.

I agree with you to a point, it is up to the individual.
God has given us strong urges, but the main problem with those images, or videos is that there is a strong
supernatural presence behind them that will easily overcome our flesh and it's hard to utilize that self control when you're dealing with the supernatural. That is why the Lord said we do not fight agains flesh and blood but against princes and prinicipalities. Those images trigger supernatural beings to work against an indivudual.

Not exactly, once we're out of this flesh and have havenly bodies it will be impossible for us to sin ever again. Even if we were not exactly faithfull here on earth, that's why we live under grace.

Exactly, and those Principalities will overpower us 100% of the time unless you have Christ to cling onto and let him fight your battles for you. You will never win solo against Satan and what he has out there in store for you unless you hold on to the higher power which is Christ.

I've been listening to Way of the Master (now Wretched Radio).

As the host, Todd Friel says....just mortify it. Don't give it a foothold. Just stop it. If you can avoid looking at that filth with the wife/girlfriend/whomever in the room...you can control yourself.

Just don't do it. Just don't. EVER!

Just man up and stop it.

Dear fellow brother or sister in Christ,
My name is Donald McNurlin and I struggle with my purity. It has, in fact, become so much of a struggle that I was brought to my knees by Satanís whim and I was driven to prayer to overcome this wall, and God provided me a spiritual rope and grappling hook to climb over it. I am convinced that it was only through the Holy Spirit that I was able to put all these Scriptures together because I didnít know them by heart! So, because I have been given these Scriptures as a gift from God to strengthen my purity, I feel it is my duty as a disciple of Christ to share this gift of Scripture that our Father in Heaven so freely provided to me. I ask that as you read the beginning of each paragraph, that you first read the Scripture that I have indicated before reading the rest of the body of text. After all, these are the words that gave me my new found, God-given conviction, and to God be the glory! Amen.

The first Scripture that came to mind was Zechariah 9:13. Being somewhat narrow minded, I read 9:13 and missed the Scripture surrounding it. If we look back to verse 9 in this same chapter, we see the coming of our Savior foretold, and with that what he will bring. As we already know, the Father does use metaphor quite often as he speaks to us, and I feel that the peace discussed here is not just throughout the land, but in our hearts as well. Continuing on to verse 13, we see that God can bend an entire city! If He is capable of this, then surely our Father can bend our hearts and shift their direction entirely, and as such can easily purify our thinking. Continuing on to the end of Zechariah chapter 9, we see that God will overcome the enemy (sin) and save us from our death. On top of that, we see that we will become beautiful as well! The only way this can happen is if we are purified.

The next one that I read was Matthew 5:27-29. Here itís laid out clearly before us how adultery is defined. If we so much as look at another person lustfully, we become adulterous people ourselves! If we lust after someone when we just look at them, we must cast our glance elsewhere. Even more so than that, we must get rid of whatever is leading us into this sin and completely cut it off. Itís better to be lacking in an aspect of our living then to be complete materialistically and go straight to our death. Proverbs 5:3-6 tell us that the ways of an adulterous thought seem smooth, and that they feel good at the time. But, in the end, we will only be led to our spiritual graves! How many times have we been led astray by guilty thoughts caused by our sin? This worldly sorrow will only lead to death (2 Corinthians 7:10). We must instead do as we are commanded and repent by cutting the cause of our sin out of our lives.

Following this, I read Ephesians 4:22-24. Clearly we must put off the old way of lustful thinking. We are continually corrupted by it and, because of this, are unable to live as disciples of Christ. Instead, we are to be clothed in Christ, which is to be clothed in purity. We must be made new by the attitudes given us by or Savior, which is key to living as a true disciple. If we read on in Ephesians 5:3, we see again how our thinking must be. Not even a hint of sexual immorality. Lustful thinking isnít just a hint, itís full-blown adultery with the world! So, we must put on the new attitudes given us by Christ and think in pure fashion. One may ask themselves, ďSelf, what danger is there in pursuing these thoughts?Ē You will be eaten by the devil! 1 Peter 5:8 tells us that heís like a lion, and if Satan is like a lion, then you know that he wonít be a cute and cuddly one. We must be self controlled, or Satan will step in and devour us with sin. Once gobbled up by it, we sit in the digestive juices of sin and it eats away at us. So, if we can control our thinking, weíll avoid this despicable fate.

The next Scripture I was shown was in the book of 1 John. 1 John 2:15-17 tells us that loving the world (in this case lustful thoughts) keeps us from having the love of the Father in us. If we have the love of the Father in us, we love others. However, if we have lust in us, we instead treat people as objects, abusing them with evil thoughts and destroying them in our minds. By doing this we also show that we love these lustful thoughts more than we love our Father, because instead of turning from them as God commands us to do, we defy him by pursuing them. If we do the will of God, though, we will not pass away as the world does but instead live forever. By doing his will we show our love for Him.

I was next led into Hebrews 10:22. As it says here, let us draw near to God and be cleansed. If we donít pursue our lustful thoughts, we donít fall into temptation and sin, and thereís nothing to be guilty of. Henceforth, we will be cleansed of a guilty conscience and we can become purified by walking with the Lord.

Finally, I was closed out in my study in Romans 6:13. Our bodies must not be tools used for sin. No part of our body is to be used for that. We cannot lust with our eyes, nor can we think lustfully with our minds. No part is to be used for sin. As we have seen, there is not only a terrible penalty for pursuing lustful thinking, it also prevents us from loving God, and we hurt him in our chasing sin. Now let us, in unity, purify our thinking as a whole and turn our hearts towards the Lord and away from impurity.

Thank you for your time. My goal and hope is that you can take away from this the same thing that I did: a renewed conviction on purity, as well as the strength to cast your eyes and thoughts away from the temptation of lustful thinking.

                  Love always in Christ,

                  Donald

(P.S. I was horribly addicted to pornography as a teenager and even as a disciple of Jesus Christ. And not in conventional formats, either, I was addicted to horribly grotesque forms, and it was not easy climbing out. In fact, I never climbed out - it was God who pulled me out of my disaster, and has unchained me for good!)
Thanks brother! It means alot to read that, I've struggled and even in my mind I still struggle but through him we will be victorious!

Sorry dude...that's NOT masturbation if that is what you are referring to in this passage. For starters Onan did not want to get his brother's wife pregnant which was in direct violation of what Judah commanded (which later God commanded in Deut 25:5-6 )

Onan was rebellious- he evaded this obligation, most likely to protect his own inheritance rather than that of his dead brother. These were unforgivable because he married under false pretenses; it is fraud and breech of contract that is why the Lord struck him down.

I agree. Cold turkey from shame is the way to go. Whenever I had (or have) the urge to look at something I know I shouldn't I imagine my wife sitting next to me and how much it would hurt her and how a bit of her security and trust would be ripped away. That pretty much stops it right there.
When the urge comes, either occupy yourself somewhere else of get busy with your wife (should you have one...) But I agree, man up and just don't do it. There's no chemical addiction, only behavior, and that can be altered.
Oh, and prayer, a lot of prayer. That really helps.

mmm, Marriage seems to be a great inhibitor for desires of that sort. But being single...well, thats another story! But I guess, to each to his own...everybody can restrain their desires up to a point. Thats why we need to ask God to help us and find a Godly hobby.

^^^ I'm not going to say it's easy street for married people, but it is "easier" for them.

I know for a fact I'd have an easier time if I had a loving wife with whom I could have intimacy with, but I don't.

It's a lot harder for single people to "quit" cold turkey. You can't quit something that is programmed into your brain (the desire for the opposite sex in this case)

Having a wife doesn't necessarily help. I think there are situations where it's worse. I know a couple of guys who had very social, fulfilled lives when they were single. The women they married are harsh and cold and they say that they are more lonely now than when they were single and that the emotional pain makes it tougher to avoid temptations, like porn.

                                GAAHHHHHH!!!!!

I hate it so much! Porn absolutly RUINED my mind!! Beyond what it used to be, thats for sure. Im on the slow path of recovery now, but man, its a lot easier to keep terrible images and thoughts out of your head when you havent exposed yourself to hours apon hours of this filth!

Lord's the only reason im able to somewhat controle myself now. When you have temptation, even a thought, scream! Not out loud, but scream in your head, LEAVE! Or pray until its gone, I know its the harrdest thing in the world to do but we HAVE to do it! It is our destiny to overcome this temptation as children of God and He certainly gives us the power to do so.

You have to catch it when it starts though, once you go along with it and your mind starts running rampant, its all downhill from there. Not that its impossible to all the sudden snap out of it, but its unlikely from my experience. After your mind goes crazy, you can sit there cursing yourself, while looking for the next stimulating image, gahhhh, its so depraved!!!

Another thing about it, your opening yourself to very powerful demons. I have no doubt, we need to excercize extreme caution with this, once you make them leave and go back to it, they will come back with more, and stronger ones! Making your next state worse then the last.

One time I wrote down, leave me in the name of the Lord Jesus! So that the demon could read it, I wrote he had no power over me and honestly I think it really did something. We certainly dont like to think demons may be influencing us in any way, but I believe its a lot more promenant then we think.

Also, you are spilling your seed. I know this may sound kind of analitical, but i've been convicted on killing genetic children of mine, children that essentially, could have been, or at least half of one, containing all my traits!! And they're all different, it just kills me to think of the combonations of children, that'll never be made again, i've destroyed! For what? Instant gratification? We need to keep our eyes on the true treasure here, our true gratification.

I felt like a rapist and certainly an adulterer, a depraved man at absolute spiritual ruin, transgressing the love of my possible future wife, the love of the woman involved in porn, the love of the self (that is not self seeking) and through these things, 3 times transgressing the love of the Father.

Keep strong in Him brothers! We all fight this battle. He's given us a spirit of love, power, and of self controle.

EDIT* Remember, it is a worthy battle. Sometimes I would reduce its significants, dont fall victim of the same. And being children of God, chosen by Him since before the beginning, eternally, He will bring us to overcome. Dont lose faith, His work will show through you.
