  • Does Satan really know that his time is short?

You hear people say that Satan is creating havoc because he knows his time is short.

But does he really know and if so, how does he know?

If memory serves me well, Jesus met one of the devils and the devil asked him 'Why do you torment me before my time?' Matt 8:29 I'm paraphrasing.

So Satan knows. Maybe one of the more experienced posters can answer better but could GOD have told this to Satan after the rebellion against GOD?

IMO Satan won't really know his time is short until the church is raptured and in heaven. However, just like we know the rapture is close we don't know how close. I think that's where he is now...close, but not how close.
Ph 3:15 (paraphrased):...And if on some point you and I think differently, that too God will make clear to us. Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

I agree with you. Why would God allow Satan to have anymore information than we have. I don't think God would want Satan to know that time is REALLY running out because why would God want His children to deal with Satan's rage and havoc.

But, then again I am thinking with my puny little human mind. :-/

I am not saying that Satan knows the exact date like God does.

This made me think about how Satan is probably wondering, "When on Earth is that rapture going to get here? I want to put my wicked program into effect!"
Maybe he's trying to trigger it with all these evil shenanigans that are happening right now.

Two things. First, Satan knows the scriptures inside and out. He's able to quote them for his own purposes. He knows that when Daniel is understood, time is short. He knows that when Israel once more became a sovereign naiton, his time became short. He once was an annointed cherub, he knows what God means in the prophecies. He was with God, in His Holy presence, and knows the language of God. His former closeness would enable him to have not a perfect understanding, but a better understanding that mankind has of the scriptures.

Second, as I've said before, Satan has been around since before the earth was created. He knows the exact number of days old that the earth is. He was around when it was created. A Mexican saying goes "mas sabe el diablo por viejo que por diablo". This translates "the devil knows more for being old than for being the devil". If we can understand that there will be 6000 years of Satan's rule followed by a sabbath rest of 1000 years of rule by Jesus, so can the devil. More to the point, he knows exactly when the 6000 years are up because he was already around on day 1. He literally knows, far better than we do, that his time is short and he's out for all the souls he can get right now.

There was a comment about why would God allow Satan to know more than we would? I can think of one reason, but first let me give one example that may qualify exactly for this. God bragged to Satan about Job. He knew Satan couldn't crack Job, would not be able to make him blaspheme. He allowed Satan to basically torture Job and never let on to Job why he was suffering. Satan knew why Job was suffering, it was because the Lord allowed Satan to make Job suffer. Job, in his suffering, did not blaspheme and that brought God glory! If there are things God tells Satan that He doesn't tell us, to bring glory to Himself as well as more or less, putting Satan in his place.

My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; the fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

                    Baruch haba b'Shem Yahweh!!

Some fabulous responses here, like the one above. I agree surely Satan knows his time is short, but even he doesn't know exactly when as Jesus said only the Father knows the exact time of the end, that is why IMHO he has over the centuries raised his 'anti-Christs' like Napoleon & Hitler to name just two from recent history.

He has to continually 'hedge his bets' on the proviso that God goes for a 'take' when he's not ready and has to quickly scramble to action and possess or put forward his final battle candidate.

So we will continue to have despots and anti semitics/anti Christians in serious places of power and influence for almost every generation going forward into the Rapture as again IMO he's in panic mode already knowing the time is now nigh.

I would venture to say that Satan knows these prophecies much better than we do. He was there when they were given, he understood the origonal language, culture, syntax, ect. I'm sure he has a much better understanding of prophecy than we do, so I'm sure he knows he is on borrowed time.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Cor 1:18

There are some good posts here and I agree that Satan will know that his time is really short when the events of Revelation 12 and 13 are taking place. In Revelation 12:9 he is expelled from heaven and will personally indwell the anti-Christ according to chapter 13 verse 2 and these chapters kick off the last three and a half years of the Tribulation period which is referred to as the Great Tribulation. This of course is particularly bad news for Israel. Will be galling to Satan (referred to as the dragon in these verses) to fight this war with Michael and his angels and realize that he and his angels are not strong enough and as a result lose their place in heaven. In fact these verses say (Rev. 12:7-9) that he and his angels are hurled down to the earth so no wonder he is filled with fury knowing his time is short.

I know you all know this but it did me good to remind myself about it again.

                          Thanks for the post Hugs

IMO, Satan or Lucifer knows his time on earth is short but he does not know the day or hour when our Lord will return. Just like we don't know the day or hour. Jesus doesn't know either only our Father in Heaven knows. He only gives Lucifer enough information for his purpose to be fulfill.

I agree that this is a very high goal on his list. However I believe his #1 is the destruction of Israel so that they will not be around to cry "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord" ushering in His 2nd coming.
