  • Welcoming the Stranger

Reading my study Bible and reading the Greek/Hebrew, I realized that the definition of the word stranger used in Leviticus where this command is first given means “foreigners”/proselyte.

Reading further and combining historical background, the Israelites were forbidden to mingle with pagan nations.

Does this shoot down the political narrative that this pertains to immigration?

Israel was to drive out the pagans, not invite them. This combined with the fact that it refers to proselytes means it would be more covenant related, wouldn’t it?
