How about the Gossip Girl promo commercials for the pilot episode on the CW channel? It's displays a big "OMFG" loud and clear. We all know what this stands for (if you don't -- Google it and you'll know soon enough). I was absolutely HORRIFIED when I first saw that!!!!

Even worse, Wikipedia describes the show as:
American television teen drama based on the popular novel series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar. Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of socialite young adults growing up on New York's Upper East Side who attend elite academic institutions while dealing with sex, drugs, and other teenage issues.

I couldn't agree more. We haven't watched network TV (except occasionally national coverage of primary campaigns) in years, and I sleep better now.

There's too much on the tube that is upsetting, stressful, vulgar (remember that old-fashioned word that we rarely hear anymore?)
We have a long, flat antenna that we bought at Circuit City, thereby no monthly fees for programs and channels that we never watch anyway. Most satellite dishes and cable companies charge a flat rate, which is not reduced simply because you 'rarely watch TV'. Then, why pay for it?

I'm stuck between make up,Gossip Girls,Viva Viagra, and Herpes commercials, that make me want to scream. It's just plain disgusting when eating and stuff like this pops up. Whats worse is that it comes on at almost all times on all channels here. (There are even TVs all over at the mall with cable on diff channels making it impossible to escape even one of these commercials.)

I agree! I only turn it on so my daughter can watch "Noggin", and occassionally the news. It's been so long since I've watched TV that I had no idea how raunchy daytime TV had gotten. I never watched soaps anyway, but I couldn't believe it when I saw several scenes of couples in bed together, in a matter of seconds (some of them teenagers), and it was nothing short of porn. The only thing that wasn't showing was their most private parts. Yack! It just confirmed my decision to buuy my daughter her own remote control. I'll have to search on-line, but for interested parents, they have a device called a "Wee-mote" that only allows children to access a few channels. It doesn't do any good to block a few channels anymore because the smut is everywhere!

This could open a new can of worms, but are there ANY guidelines for what is posted on billboards? I don't get out much (that's another post), but when I take my daughter out, I just love it when she notices advertisements for the local strip clubs with nude women posted on them, or horrifying haunted house promotions that run from Sept-Nov. It's a little different than TV because at least I can turn the TV off. I guess I can choose to not take my daughter anywhere. Every billboard that I pass is either advertising a strip club, a casino, alcohol, etc.

Not commercials but ABC family really has me in a tizzy lately. Their show, "Kyle XY" not only has 2 "clones" as the main characters but one of the character's on the show, her parents are a lesbian couple. Though to my recollection, we haven't seen the parents.

Also on ABC family, "Greek." Openly gay guy rushing a fraternity. Oodles of college drinking and you can imagine what else. One of the supporting characters "sleeps" around to get her revenge.

Um, ok, and THAT is family programming?

Watching all the horrible things going on in our country in a news show... then all of a sudden you see 4 or 5 grown men with musical instruments sitting around singing "Viva Viagra" off of the old Elvis Presley song. Yuck.

I mute most commercials. They are just more noise. And if you notice, there are more and more of them on every single commercial break... its like they cant cram the stuff down our throats fast enough..... 7 or 8 commercials at one time? sometimes 10?...

I dont watch must TV either except for news, or other stuff here and there..but.... my husband and I were at a hotel the night as he had a dr appt at the va the next morning..... and we had very limited cable channels available to us.. we started watching this show "Dexter".... oh my goodness.... if you want to see how our society is truly thinking, watch this.. it is so dark.... the "hero" is a serial killer from how I understand it..... that is the kind of stuff your neigbors are watching... and someone somewhere is writing.... geeezzz...
