  • Something to share re: endtime Babylon

We've all heard different folks suggest that the USA is "Babylon", such as the fall of the WTC, etc.

But I found something in Zechariah which I believe supports the perspective that the future Babylon will be built upon the same site as ancient Babylon.

Zechariah 5:5-11 describes a vision of two winged women bearing an ephah.

An ephah was used as a commercial unit of measurement...similar to the term "barrel" is the unit of measurement to sell oil. (I'm not suggesting that oil is part of this prophecy).

Inside the ephah, is a wicked woman. Clearly a symbol of pagan religion.
But she is imprisoned in the ephah, by the angel, therefore under God's control until the appointed time.

She is taken to the land of Shinar to establish her own base.
Shinar is clearly where ancient Babylon was built (Genesis 11:2)
And "her own base" represents a future religious & commercial center located in modern Iraq.

      • It is possible. Saddam Hussein started to rebuild ancient Babylon before he ran out of money for the project. The front gate was completed and is now a tourist attraction.

          • Where is/ will be Babylon?

I was just curious of a concensus of people on here as to how many believe that Babylon is a literal city to be rebuilt? Many teachers or others seem to take the name "Babylon" to be something figurative or another city. I myself believe it is being rebuilt to a degree at this time but I'm not sure how many people are there or if it is up and running. I read either on RR or Grace thru Faith that some Iraqis want to make it their capital and replace Baghdad. I've also come to understand that the "harlot" is the religious system of the end times aka "Mystery Babylon". I know that one day an angel will call out "Fallen is Babylon the Great!" in Revelation 18. I would appreciate other readers input on this. Thank you and God Bless.
Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Coming again coming again maybe morning maybe noon maybe evening and maybe soon!
Coming again coming again O what a wonderful day it will be! Jesus is coming again!

              • There are two Babylons, commercial and spiritual. THey both exist around the world.

While there is an exact location that is or was the true city of Babylon, these two exist around the world. They exist in many of today's churchs and businesses. Whether the original city of Babylon will be rebuilt, I am not sure. I believe the Lord speaks of the two systems that are world wide of which both will be destroyed once and for all.
Hussein did have one of the gates of Babylon rebuilt.

THere is one true word of God. A false religion can have it's roots traced back to a babylonian system of idolotry, false beliefs, deception.

                      That makes very good sense.

                        • Is Rome Mystery Babylon?

                          Is Rome Mystery Babylon?

In order to qualify for the title of “Mystery Babylon,” a four-fold criteria must first be met:
                          1. The blood of the martyrs of Jesus must be shed in that city. “And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration” (Revelation 17:6).
                          2. Topographically, it must be built on seven hills. “And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth” (Revelation 17:9).
                          3. This city must be a spiritual headquarters for globalism, not only in merchandising, but also in politics, philosophy and religion. “For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies” (Revelation 18:3).
                          4. When the city is on fire, it must be seen from the Mediterranean Sea. No other city can meet this four-fold criteria but Rome.
“For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!” (Revelation 18:17-18).

                          • A City on Seven Hills

Nor is the woman ancient Babylon now being rebuilt in Iraq, for it is not built on seven hills. Some other cities are, but only Rome meets all the criteria, including being known as Babylon. Even Catholic apologist Karl Keating confirms that Rome was known as Babylon and cites 1 Peter 5:13. "The Church that is at Babylon....."1 The Catholic Encyclopedia states, "It is within the city of Rome, called the city of seven hills, that the entire area of Vatican State proper is now confined." 2

                            • I'd say the Bible points to physical Rome.

Revelation 2:12-14 (New King James Version)
12 “And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write,
‘These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword: 13 “I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. 14 But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.

                              Pergamon was dedicated to Rome.

I have never heard this before. I am wondering why the Ezekiel 38 war would have that kind of positive effect on Iraq. That is difficult for me to fathom how that could result. Can you tell me what explaination Mr. Rosenberg gave for his theory? Thanks
