  • I always come back to these verses when I think of Catholicism:

But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it! (2 Corinthians 11:3-4)

That tells me plainly that if someone has a different gospel then they have a different Jesus and there is no salvation in a false Christ.

    • How wonderful is jesus? very loving ,How far does he Go? VERY far

hey, i'm new, recently saw this from gotquestions... sorry, back to the main topic. I am an ex-catholic/ former pagan. my story begins in Africa, Nigeria. My family( we all live together in one big house about 40 at least) are all catholics unfortunately. For one theres a lot clear on the RCC for sure, 1) Its a false religion 2) it can save but is very ineffective 3) it is very psychological in the way you do not want to leave. After my escape from paganism, I was in another web, the cc. I thought I had been saved since I left that false religion, yet, I didn't know I also was in another one myself. After time, I came across a site that specifically said "You are saved by grace through faith alone, lest no one should boast" and a couple of other scripture on the site that proved that salvation was by faith, I believed for awhile, until I was shown something else that countered that I thought " You dumb dumb, if we are saved just by faith go sin all you want, would jesus want you to sin, do you really think he would come to just get those who "believe" in him, or those who believe and obey the commandments?". After time I was back to the thinking we were saved by faith + works and that if I died in my sins I'm a gonner. After some time the lord was gracious and led me to the site "gotquestions.com" kind of by accident ( After leaving paganism I dedicated my life to CHRIST, so I think the holy spirit was upon me before this, which made me have an interest in the bible and websites about it) And saw salvation as it was, in plain black and white, I didn't believe for a time. But was drawn to it more and more, I rejected and accepted the doctrine of Grace alone for a long time, until I said to myself " you know what, if its in the bible, ill do it". I checked galatians and ephesians and there it was, the keywords for me were "grace, under the law meant you were cursed, and faith" After that I began to think. why? why does the catholic church do this? From that day I renounced catholicsm, and now want to share the truth with my 38 siblings and my parents. I felt so free, this peace was the kind I couldn't achieve for a weeks meditation, and even then it was short lived! After that day I had so much want to please GOD and spread the gospel to those lost. Praise JESUS! (never thought i'd say that ) Now I will try with the grace and help of GOD to save all my family, and my friends in school, and mind you this only happened in 1 year! (shows the awesome power of GOD) and I'm only 13, (paganism and catholic evnts in life happened when 12) yup "jesus does love us". My story of paganism is for another time

Praise God and Jesus the Holy Spirit has come to you!

Don't feel so alone here. Many of us have some not so great backgrounds (I was an occultist, drug user and more) but like you once I sought out God and saw the REAL picture it all made a lot more sense and I live with His Peace and Security in His Grace and I am a tree baring fruit!
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

        • Before i left the RCC... demons were with me

After I left paganism, I was still haunted a bit (surprisingly, most testimonies I have seen from those who were into the occult always had a time of increased danger and sadness i.e 30 days of torture by demons after leaving the occult). Every time I got to bed I would see shadows in my room and men was I scared and too top it off, I had many more nightmares of paralysis and nightmares. lets just say I had 2-7 hours of sleep each day. Now I thought to myself "Ahhh, my entire family always use rosary to pray, bringing mother mary's blessings, So it must be effective!" and the I was told that when you prayed the rosary mary comes, and since she is the mother of GOD, Jesus comes, and since Jesus is GOD, the angels and all the saints would come!

How smart I thought so I tried it, I placed a crucifix on my wall to "scare" the demons, put a bible under my bed and wore a rosary, later on because of fear I was wearing a so called ring rosary. Well I tried it first night, guess what? NOTHING! All I felt was a little comfort, and that was it, still seeing shadow men, having nightmares and paralysis!

It went on for days, I probably prayed, but not truly! From the heart. I was still relying on the "tools", I even prayed for GOD, to fill the rosary with power/protection/holyspirit . I know dem demons were grining at such vain efforts. (I didn't tell anyone this, not even my family, my dad would give me the hiding of my life!). I kept on, even when unsuccessful, it was after I saw gotquestions.org tell me how to earn salvation and why the catholic church is soooo wrong. One red flag was that if I was praying to a so called saint, how would I know if he/she was in heaven?. I prayed the sinners prayer given there, and over time, the nights of horror, started to become less and less, until it was no more. After constant thinking, I decided I ought to renounce the RCC, since GOD said "come out of her in order that you do not receive her plagues (Babylon?)" I think. After that day I felt tranquil like none other when I was in the RCC. The demons were gone, I started to love reading the bible a lot(guess what Jesus said about darkness not understanding light is true) when I never ever liked it, started going to Christian websites(loved it) etc etc etc. It was like magic! POOf! Pixie dust.

After some time I watched an ex-Satanist video on youtube (when I was looking for something like sex on youtube, I saw different stuff like 666, the end of time, prophecy being fulfilled from Christian websites, coincidence? I think not ) telling me its not the tools that matter e.g rosary, bible, crucifix, but the relationship, the relationship with JESUS CHRIST our lord and only saviour. PRAISE GOD! Now when I see people who don't believe in JESUS i'm like "well, he was once like me, may GOD save him" and secondly "Then where did I get all this tranquillity from???" May GOD show all people the way amen.

          • Roman Catholics and Purgatory

I was in a discussion with a Roman Catholic who said that Daniel 12:10; Isaiah 6:5-7; Zechariah 13:9; and Malachi 3:2-3 are all references to Purgatory. I would like to hear some insight on the words "purified, refined, purged," in regards to refiner's fire. The very idea of Purgatory and the doctrines that are often attached to it (prayer for the dead, indulgences, meritorious works on behalf of the dead, etc.) all fail to recognize that Jesus’ death was sufficient to pay the penalty for ALL of our sins. This Roman Catholic also said - "According to Jewish tradition, the soul must spend some time purifying itself before it can enter the world to come. The maximum time required for purification is twelve months." Did this UN-Biblical doctrine originate with Jewish tradition?

            • Daniel 12:10 is talking about the tribulation period so it has nothing to do with the Church.

Zechariah 13:9 is all about Israel, not the Church.

Malachi 3:2-3 is about the tribulation and the Israelites. Notice the "He will purify the sons of Levi". You can't just leave out parts of a verse to make it say whatever you want.

              • When Jesus told the thief on the cross that he would be with Him in paradise, the scripture does not say in a year, it says today! And it is also prefaced with verily, very important, telling a truth, Jesus clearly stating the man would be with Him in paradise that day. I came out of RCC, I feel like I had to be de programmed for years.
John 10:27-30 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.

The Roman Catholic church is good at leaving out parts of a verse to make it say whatever they want.

                      • Did anyone ever wonder why mary was always seen standing on snakes (serpents) in some of her statues? I did some research and it actually was supposed to be Jesus I think on them, so sad how people are deceived. I praise the lord that the lord drew close to me to lead me into truth. About a week ago I wanted to challenge the priest to see what his answer was on holy communion and this is what I did... priest=p me=m

m: excuse me sir, I'm a bit confused (gotcha now) why do we take holy communion?
p: it is the unbloody continuous sacrifice of Jesus at the cross
m:didnt Christ do it all on the cross?
                        p: (no reply)

The Rcc is in need of serious help, there destroying Billions of souls, and making the Christian experience something of fear instead of love. Just afraid for my family cuz all 40 of em are catholics !!!! praying for all of them But thank God Jesus is coming soon, anyway, do saved catholics go in the rapture? cause I heard since the Vatican is the whore of Babylon, and Jesus said we should come out of her in order that we don not receive her plagues.

Reformed, reborn, recovered former Catholic here... Catholics can be saved and raptured if they are saved. By believing in God's grace alone and Jesus' sacrifice as sufficient they are in a sense coming out of the Vatican. The key is to separate "religion" from salvation. I'm not saying it's easy for someone to be in "religious" practices that don't promote salvation through grace alone, but it is possible to go through the dead rituals out of habit, tradition, family practice and know in your heart the truth. Definitely wouldn't recommend this method but I know a handful of Catholics that for various reasons won't stop going to that church but I believe they are truly saved because despite no encouragement from the Catholic Church, they read the Bible for themselves, pray to the one and only God (not "saints" or Mary), and know they aren't and never will be good enough/do enough works and that it's only by Jesus' work they're saved.

                          • But still...

Right now, I'm going to bible class in the church (Its the best I can do, and I told them if it can be taken from the bible I will accept which is very rare in the RCC) with only about 5 out of about a 100 and something. The 5, I think truly love God and I really think they are saved and they "walk the talk". And a few other 20 at most, But the remaining 75 are all "talk but no walk". If on average 25/100 (supposed to be 150 or 200) are truly saved (this is just a theory) then that is a seriously small number, and satan is wining. We must correct our catholic Brethren (yes, to me all those who believe Jesus is God are supposed to be our brothers) and show them truth. For most( not all) are unsaved because the gospel is so hidden and covered with mary and sacraments. In the first 14 years of my life I was never told the gospel, and still was never told to me by the priest or anyone else. so I was part of that 75. God help us, and save many before the coming end. Amen

Isn't there an old hymn (probably not a rcc one) that says 'I've been washed in the blood', speaking of the blood of Jesus? And old testament even teaches that without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. So how does a blood-less sacrifice help anyone?

I never realized the blood was missing until your post, so thank you Edgar king. No wonder the few times lately I have been in a Catholic church I have felt they were worshiping idols. The wafer is certainly not Jesus. Jesus was beaten and scourged, and pierced, and was bloody!
"Therefore my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable,
                              always abounding in the work of the Lord;
knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain."
